I like um all but that first is going to look great. I guess I'm a color contrast geek. Let me add I have a ton of 4/4" stock that I plan to turn into lam necks once my shop is running again. Which now that the house is done will happen as soon as I'm fully recovered from a rotator cuff surgery I had about a week ago. I'm supposed to be totally screwed up for at least two months. Oh joy.

I'm running out of wood, that's why I traded for the mahogany. I got a bunch of it. The guy has a 10' long by 12" wide 1" thick purple heart for 50 dollars. Is that a good price? Well it's snowing heavy today and suppose to snow through Saturday. So I don't know how much I'll get done on necks today. I've got my little heater on in the shop to warm things up.

well that's 10 board feet so what ever the BF price happens to be. for example 5 bucks a foot would be your fifty so i'm thinking it would go for 7 a foot so you might be saving 20 bucks. But I would ck your local dealer and see what their pricing is. It could be an even better deal depending on that. Other wise it's all guess work.

Did some checking around on the net and found out that the price the guy gave me looks to be a good deal. Now I just have to figure out if I do some more trading with him, or if can sell something and buy it out right. EB

just called for a currant price on purple heart and it's 6.05 from my guy. so that's 60.50 from my guy. saving 10 bucks is better then a sharp stick in the eye but it wouldn't be a deal maker for me.

Hear is the neck blank all cleaned up. Yes this is the rosewood fret board I am going to use. The rose wood is from the rose guitar build. EB

Be careful with that rosewood! If you get busted I can help with bail!
Good luck, John

You for sure don't want to get caught with the Brazilian baked Maple.

If I sent the maple grown here in the USA to Brazil and had them back it for for me I wonder what kind of trouble I would get into? LOL!

Ok after a lot thinking, I decided not to cut the neck off and make a new one. I was able to sand it flat.
So I am using a different fret board than what I was going to use. I have it gluing tonight. I'll take the clamps off sometime this week. By the week end I'll have it carved down to the neck. I am thinking of putting turquoise dot inlays in the fret board. Once the inlays are in, I'll put in the frets.
If everything looks good to that point, I'll sand the whole body down (again) but this time I'm going to use poly on it. As some of you know for some reason the Lacquer in a can form the hardware store is not curing right. I have been looking for lacquer in a gal can but so far can't find any. The lacquer on this build has been on there for a long time and it's still not sticking and it peals off easy. I might seal it this time with an epoxy, then use a poly over that. Once I get the neck all worked out I'll post some more pictures. I wish this build was done, but I guess it will be done when it's done. EB

Well all kinds of troubles. Sorry to hear. But wow turquoise inlay sound really cool. I haven't seen that before, wish I'd have thought of that.
