Ouch- that smarts, but veneer is just the solution unless you're going to paint a solid colour.

The carve looks very good Eddie. To bad that bad bandsaw cut. But I'm sure you will get it a squared away.

That is a great wood combo on that neck. I feel confident you can recover with the veneer.
You started the neck with a file? Pretty cool.

Yes I like the wood combo too. It really goes good with the leather my son stained the leather with. EB

Been working on the Body today. I didn't post any pictures because it's was more sanding. Didn't think you all would want to see more sanding. LOL! I went through all my router bits today and found a bit and a bearing that I can use to make the rout for the bindings. I did some test runs with it and it looks good to go. Tomorrow, I'll do some more testing to make sure it's all good, before I rout the body. Plus I need to make the bindings. I'll see if my band saw will behave or I may run over and get the new blade for the small table say I got. I know I can make them on it. Hum... Once the routing doe the biding is done, then it will be onto gluing the top on this guitar body. But first, I have to locate and rout for the pickups and drill the holes for the 2 volume pot and I might even have to do the chamber for the pots.
Well, Lots to do on this. And a whole lot more sanding. Maybe some of us need to start our own sandpaper company... LOL!

Yes indeed there is a lot of sanding inn this racket. Sure is. I pretty much took the day off today. I did do some clean up in the little shop. I got me some past wax. So, I have been putting past wax on a lot of tools. Sure does help out with the wood and really helps on the metal decks on the joint/planer, Band saw, and sanders. I hope this will help with the rust on them. Since they are outside. They need all the protection I can give them. EB

Not much longer, I should be back on this build. I almost have my little shop done. Only a few more things I want to do before I get back on this build. I want to get things painted up before the weather gets to much colder. And I would like to get the table saw on wheels.
I got my guitar room reorganized to help it have a better flow when working on or putting guitars together. I'll post some pictures on it later on.
I can hardly wait to get back on it. I set it on the work bench and was looking things over. I really think it will be an awesome guitar.

I saw your video. It looks very organized now. Right after I posted the video, my wife and I went out and finished up. They plywood you see leaning up against the screening of the patio has now been moved. All of the clutter in the video is now gone.
I am real happy with the shop now. Lot more room to work in now. Going to take the rest of the day off and all day tomorrow. Monday I'll be back at it. Would like to get wheels on the table saw and maybe get the cart painted.

I am back on this build now. Trying to remember where I left off, was a hard thing to do today, on this build.
I was going to try and do the routing for the neck today. I was going to try and do it without adding more wood to the heal. But no that won't work because of thickness of the leather. The leather is 3/18th of an inch thick. So by the time a allow for the thickness there is not much wood left on the heal to be put into the body.
Here is where I started to hog out the wood, when It hit me about the thickness of the leather. So, I did some thinking on it a stopped here and did some remeasuring. (funny how one start things of stuff while doing other stuff. LOL)
Here it is being clamped up with some left over birds eye maple I had from this build. By the time it get glued in a carved there wont be much of the bird eye to see. I was looking for some left over mahogany but everything left over was way to small and I didn't want to glue up any to make it fit.
Well, that has put me to stop for today. I was hoping to get a lot more done. But I want to get the neck pocket and neck set (not glued in) So that I can rout for the pickups and drill for the controls. It look like I am going to have to make a shim for the bridge. I'll have to cut the leather after it's glued onto the body, and then put in a shim to life the bridge up high enough to clear the leather. I didn't want to mount the bridge to the top of the leather. The leather is thick and heavy duty, but I afraid of the bridge having to much movement sitting on top of the leather.
So, much to think about when building a custom guitar. Or at lest like this one. I'll let the heal dry over night and try again. There a few things I could be doing, but I am not going to rush this build.
I sure do like the way my shop is now. It is pretty much working out the way I wanted it to. I still need to add the wheels to the table saw, I may do that next week. But for now everything shop wise is going well.
