Trigger! This is the one that really baked my noodle Eddie. Really looking good.
Again YouTube fails to give me a heads-up despite ensuring the appropriate options are checked. I get Dane's, I get Rick Beato's but all the others only show up if I connect to YouTube. It's bizarre.

I don't know why you can't get the notifications. On your phone, you may have to turn on notifications. Hum...
Maybe I have been blocked on your YT to get the heads-up. I know one can check to see how is blocked on YT. But then you would not see me at all. Hum... I don't know. I know was having the same problem with Dane's UT channel, but I cannot remember how I fixed it. I think I went in, turned everything off then back on again.
Thanks for the complement! EB

OK, if everything goes well, should have this guitar up and playing in the next day or two.
Today I cleaned up the fretboard and leveled the frets. All I need to now is finish up slotting the nut. I had to stop for today. I'll pick up where I left off tomorrow. EB

OK all, looks like I am going to put this guitar to rest. Looks like the neck has developed a hump at around the 10th to the 16th fret. An odd place, but it's there.
So, at some point in time, I'll be removing the frets to see if I can sand the hump out by sanding the fretboard. If not, then I will have to remove the fret board and see what I can do to sand it out of the neck.
Out of frustration, think I'll put it away for now. Come back to at some other time. EB

That's a downer for sure Eddie. Like all your ongoing projects, I reckon it's time to slerp on it for a while. You'll get fired up again, I know it.

Did a lot of thinking on this guitar. Here is what I think what may happen once the weather here cools down some. Remember that fret board I removed off the neck that went bad? I am going to see if I can reuse it on this guitar. It is birds eye maple and has a better loot I think than the Teak wood on that is on it right now. If I do that, then I am going to sand the guitar down again and do something else with the finish. Don't know exactly what I'll do, but I will be doing changes to it. Maybe next go around will work out better.

Some bad news on this build...
I used some teak wood for the fret board on this build. It did not work out! I was trying to level the frets and kept on getting frets that would not level at all. I kept on sanding until I almost had no frets left. Hum...
So, I pulled the frets and tried to relevel the fret board. It looked like that was the way to go. But no! Two things happened. One, the spot that kept on swelling up did again after resanding the fretboard. Two, the frets did not want to stay in the fretboard.
So... I removed the fret board. I was then able to understand all my problems. That fret board came off in pieces. I could not come off in one piece. The wood fell apart as I went along.
Maybe a blessing in disguise. But now I have to figure out a new fret board for it.
I did have the guitar up and playing. It sounds really good! I had forgotten how good these old made in Japan pickups sound. But more on that later on.
Now that it is Thanksgiving, I'll be taking some time off from projects.
If I don't come back on here soon, then I hope you all have a great weekend!

Well that's wild! Sounds pretty bizarre Justin what do suppose the problem was. Excessive slash grain in the teak maybe?

Well that's wild! Sounds pretty bizarre Justin what do suppose the problem was. Excessive slash grain in the teak maybe? I think a lot of it was from two pieces of wood being glued together for one. When I started to lift the fretboard off it split right in the middle. The swelling of the woods in one spot? I really don't know what was going on, other than maybe the wood in that spot was softer than the rest? I really did not see a reason for it to do what it was doing. The wood I chose for the fret board was all 1/4 sawn. Never had a fretboard do anything like this.
So. I'll take the guitar apart one more time. Put on a new fretboard and go from there. Don't know how soon I'll get to it. Turning off real cold here. I may have to put everything on hold until spring. I'll see how it goes.
Now with the Holidays here that also makes things hard to do, with family coming in and all.

Teak is an interesting choice. It is normally pretty stable and tough wood.
I remember my grandfather talking about teak. He was on an Iowa-class battleship in WWII, and the deck was made of teak. I asked him why they used teak, and he told me - jokingly - to keep the sailors busy cleaning and buffing it!
You may just consider a rosewood or pau ferro board from Stewmac. They are very stable and pretty inexpensive.

I think one of the first, maybe the very first guitar I posted on GA was the maple, teak build. The neck and the body were teak and the top and fretboard were maple. The guitar sold out of a local store front to a lady that owned a recording studio. She has my contact info but I've never heard from her. That teak reclaimed was from pole houses in Thailand. Leftovers from some custom tables I made.
Good for decks because of its naturally oily content. And very strong. But tricky to glue because of the oil. Like rosewood it's nessaary to wipe down with acetone or naphtha right before glue up.

This is two of three I did out of teak wood. But this is the only one, I also made the fretboard out of it too. Won't do that again.
But I will overcome this. Just don't know how long it will take. But I will do it!
