I was doing the same thing posting videos in both places. It's a lot to keep up with. Hope you get it all done before the surgery. The P90 build will be the last one for a long time, even for YT. I'll get the neck through done this weekend. By next weekend, the Sparkle guitar should be done.
Today I did select the woods I'll be using for the P90 guitar. I'll start on it sometime next week.
I still need to go and see the doctor to find out If he is going to do the surgery. But after talking with my other two doctors, It looks like my only way to go. I am so much pain that it's taking its tole on me. Every day, it gets worse. So at this point in time I only want to stop the pain.
Well, I don't know what else to do at this time about the videos. I don't mind posting in two places. The videos are a lot easier than me posting pictures and then have to say something about the pictures. In the videos, it's all right there.

Turned out to be in the 40s today. 40s and 50s for the rest of the week. That makes it cold in the metal building (the shop). It may hit 60 even on Thursday for a short time. Looks like I am going to have to wait on getting the sparkle guitar done. I did not make it with the last two coats of finish on it. I did get the neck blank out of the clamps for the P90 guitar, but it too will not have to wait until the weather warms up some.
The neck through is waiting on the new pot that got messed up. But I will go ahead and finish leveling the frets on it and finish up the string nut. Get the set-up done and so on while waiting on the new pot.
I go to the surgeon tomorrow morning (Monday) to see what he/she has to offer. If they want to do surgery on me, I will see if I can put it off until after the first of the year. It really depends on my insurance and meeting decidable. I Know I have met it for this year. So, that will be where all that is for me to decide of when a surgery may happen or not.
I am in so much pain, it has gotten worse. Along with the frontal lobe, shrinkage, it has not been fun. I was hit just one night ago with a bad attack with the brain stuff. So I feel like I am in between a rock and hard spot. Do I get a surgery that will take me a few months to recover from, for some relief of pain, and still facing a time that my mind can give up at any time? Oh, the struggles of life.

I would think with having met the deductible and being in a lot of pain you would get it done as soon as possible. Face one battle at a time my friend.

No video at this time pictures only of how the sparkle guitar is coming along.
I got the pick guard screwed on. I also attached the ground wire That I installed for the bridge. Out the bridge in place. After I took these pictures, I put the string furrels in the top and back
I had to order and other set of tuners for it. The ones I got were not the right ones for this build. So now I am waiting on the tuners. Still need to clean up the fret board and make the string nut. I am not doing to well today so I don't know if I'll do anything else on it for a while.
Just thought you all would like to see it as it sit now. EB

Well... I have not done anything on this guitar for a while now. Once again, I have not been doing well with my health, plus the Christmas Holidays and a few people coming by and visiting added to nothing getting done.
Then there is the weather. We have had some days down to 12 degrees. That is too cold for me!
I don't know when I'll get back to this build. I hope soon. If I can get out of my funk...

I have a setback on this guitar. I took it all apart because I am not happy with the way the finish looks on it. So I will be doing some more color sanding or sanding even smoother then applying some more Minax tung oil finish on it. I'll keep at it until I am happy with it.
There were a couple of finish issues that just were not what I like to see. I was trying to fix it without taking it all apart, but that was frustrating me to no end. So I took it apart.
It may end up taking another two weeks to get this back together again. But this time, when it does go back together, it will be the last time. Everything should be how I want it to be. But I do think I'll have to some CA work on it this time. Will be using CA glue for some grain filling in a few spots.
I was working on the nut when I decided the finish was just not up to par of the kind of work I do on my guitars, and I wasn't going to let it slide. Even though this guitar is for me and I could have said OH Well, and let it go.
So, I have started some of the sanding, using 1,000 wet dry. If I stand through, I'll touch it up and go on. I more than likely will have some sand though going on.
Once I get the body looking good, then I'll reapply the TOF (tung oil finish)
I am not happy with the neck as well. So I am going to scrape off the fret board and do it all over again. As far as the head stock goes, I guess my daughter is too busy to make the flower for me. So, I'll see if I can make one. I have to find some kind of sticky back decal stuff and make one by cutting out by hand and some color markers.
I may even try and experiment by painting it on. I do have some paint brushes I use on my model cars. Hum...
I am getting used to setbacks these days. Now that I think on it. This may take longer than a couple of weeks. With the wife going in for surgery on the 8th of FEB. I have two other doctor's appointments in the big city. Hard telling how soon this build will get done.
I was also hoping to get back on the P90 guitar in Feb. But looks like that will be pushed back to March or April. OH life...

I seriously think finishing is the most frustrating part of guitar building. But once I master it, it's going be really cool. I'll get you all posted on when I get it mastered.

I seriously think finishing is the most frustrating part of guitar building. But once I master it, it's going be really cool. I'll get you all posted on when I get it mastered. If I was going to manufacture guitars for sale, I would put me in a good spray booth with good ventilation, much like I used to use for cars. Use a top of the line spray guns.
Then I would have a spot in the shop to let the guitars cure for about a year before doing anything else to the guitars. I may even would put them in a heated room to help with the curing. I would also invest in a big buffer for getting that top of the line gloss finish.
Doing stuff the way I do has been a huge challenge for me a lot of the times. I have had to redo a lot of my guitars when making them. I think it would be nice to be able to do my own mixing of paints and clears, like I did when I painted my cars. I was in control of the paint and clears. Even primers, I could control how thick I wanted it coming out of the gun. I used a lot of lacquers back then. I never had to wait for weeks to color sand. I could color sand the next day. Why is it on wood it takes so long? On metal, I never had to baby the finish like I do on wood. Seems to me that they should have been able to come up with a better way to deal with wood. LOL!
LOL! "Once I master it" That can be said about making guitars. I don't think none of us will ever master the art or craft of making a guitar. At least for me. I am always trying out new things on every build. Even when I do routing, I am always trying to come up with a better way of routing.
Side note; I have been watching this program about "craftsman" It's a good program, and they go in to what makes a craftsman. So far, everyone one on there have said. They are always learning, perfecting their craft. So far, they all will not use CNC machines. They feel that the imperfections in their work shows that it was made by hand, making things by hand is so satisfying.
I found that these people say the same thing I have said for many years. I used to say it about cars when building a 50's "Kustom" or even in printing when printing was a craft. Yes, I have been around long enough to know that printing was once a craft. I started out setting type. LOL!

Of course we are aways learning and honing our craft. That what keeps it fun. The finishing process for me is about finding a method that works well every time. Of course there is aways things may go wrong but I want to find an overall method I'm very confident with. I have a set up I haven't had a chance to work with yet so this could be it!
