Well if it’s nit the weather it’s me. We have a nice day out today but I just don’t feel all that well today. I had another bad night and have not slept all that much. So, I better take the day off and not do anything.
Hope you all are doing fine... EBCG

Take it easy buddy. I was down for about 5 weeks. Sick as a dog on and off. No will at all didn't go out the shop even with people waiting on stuff. Couldn't make myself do it.

Getting started on the bindings today...
After cutting some of the wood I am using for the binding on my table saw. I then cut the wood in half to make two bindings. I then used my sander with some wood as a jig to thin that wood down so that it can be bent. I have a ways to go before that will happen.
OK, Still not hitting off to many cylinders today so I thought that I would at least try and make the bindings... Before I go in that Saga of things. Can someone remind me why I got into making guitars?
I started out needing to true up the wood that I want to use for the bindings. So, I did a test on my joiner/ planer, to find out it was cutting out to much wood and was snipping on the end of the wood a lot! Hum... So 2 hours later of adjusting the blades I finally got it shaving the wood like a pro! So after squaring up the wood, I thought I would try and cut it to size using my band was. Nope, not going to happen! Fist off the one of the wheels I mounded on the cab, decided it would bend over. So, that will be another project. On top of that the dog gone things is drifting again. Gerrr!!!
So out of frustration I decided to cut the bindings on my table saw. That worked out good. So, then I miss measured the binding when free hand cutting them to size on the ... Yep band saw... I made them to short. I now had to rip some more wood. Here's a kicker for ya. Went to make a cut and guess what I found in the wood? Come one guess.... I'll be danged if there is not another crack in this wood too!!!! Now I am really getting up set!
So now that I have the wood cut to size and have started to sand to the right thickness I am starting to second guess myself on building guitars. This build has been plagued with one problem after another. Nothing has gone well on it.
I am not happy with how heavy it is as well. This is the most expensive guitar I have built yet. Most of the cost is wood I bought that turned out to be unusable. I really hope that it sounds good! It will look good and I will make this into a guitar one way or another. If I havd someway to cut the thickness of the body in half I would do it and then add some poplar to the back. But I don't, so I wont.
I don't know, seems I am struggling a lot with doing anything not just making guitars. I am wondering if it because of my condition and the drug the doctor has me on?
I think once this is done, it will be the last one I build form scratch for a long long time.
Once this one is done I am going to finish the fabric guitar, and I have an acoustic that is need of neck reset. It will be the first neck reset I have done. I now have all the tools for that. I'll see how that will go.
Once the weather gets better, Think I am going to go fishing, I have not done that in years. Wonder what kind of trouble I can get into doing that? LOL! I am end up catching an alligator, Plenty of them in the lakes around here. HA!

Better to find the crack now than a year or two after you've finished the guitar Eddie.
Keep at it Brother.

More frustrations!
I had some more things happen with making the or trying to make the bindings for this guitar. Not doing to go into it. But they are not going to work.
I went on line to buy some ready made ones. Nope that's not going to happen. Stew Mac now charges a hazmat charge to send the plastic bindings. That charge was like $38.00 plus another $12.00 for shipping!!! For two strips of plastic! No way am I going to pay that! That is just stupid nuts!!! NO reason for that! I don't care how the green earth thing works. Those people are going to drive people out of business.
As of now I don't know what I am going to do. I am not going to spend that kind of money on to small strips of plastic. I am going to take some time off from this build until I calm down. Think on what I can do to get some kind of binding on it. It really needs to have the binding. I got to thinking of going without it. But that will leave the edge of the leather exposed and subject to getting damage. So, it really needs binding.
Yes I know things happen. But come on!!! Never had this many problems in a build. Well, not counting the fabric build. I think I am going to move on to something else for now. See what I can get into trouble with. I do have other projects I would like to get going on. I don't know, if the weather was better I would go to the beach and watch? LOL!

Sounds like a brake is do. If I can help I will make the binding. But I can't bend to fit without the body. So there would be some shipping costs incurred.

Sounds like a brack is do. If I can help I will make the binding. But I can't bend to fit without the body. So there would be some shipping costs incurred. I went ahead and ordered them from China. Should have them in a few weeks. Got them at a good price and free shipping. If I had seen you post first I would have taken you up on it. I still might, depending on the binding I'll be getting. They always say to give + or - in the sizes. So, I wont know what I am getting until I get them.
Yes my wife and son had a long talk about me taking a brake yesterday. I went out to the shop and put everything away, cleaned up all the dust washed off the doors, glass, and walls.
I am going to play guitar and maybe learn some new songs. I may even do a few more videos on my production guitars that I have. I may even put some of them up for sale, since I don't play out anymore. Can't see having them all sitting around.
I am also going to start going through all my things, and getting rid of stuff that I don't use or haven't been used in a long time. Starting with the few pedals I have left.
It's time to let go of things and move on. Make room for my next hobby. Think I am going to go back into electric trains. HO scale. LOL! I use to have that as a hobby. I have one steam engine left over from that past hobby. Going to the hobby shop today to look at getting track and other items.
Well anyways... Once this guitar is done I think I am done with building form scratch. I still may make a few neck blanks as I go along. I do have a lot of ebony fret board blanks and a couple of maple fret board blanks and a couple of two way truss rods to use up or maybe trade off for something else? I don't know...
I'll see how things go in the next few months.
In a day or two I may go ahead and finish you the neck and body carve, do a finish on the body, make the string nut for it. put the bridge in place, put on the tuners, volume controls, put the jack in, heck might as well string it up. Then put the bindings on at a later date.
Nothing says I have to put the bindings on it right now. At least all of the parts of the guitar would be on the guitar.
Like I said I do have other projects that I could be working on. But they have waited this long what another month or two?

I understand your viewpoint Eddie, I have a sail plane kit my pa bought for me, but I have never built it because I couldn't countenance the inevitability of crashing it. Unlike me, you've come back from so many crashes that my heart tells me it's in your blood, and old father time has a cure for you Brother.

Don't know when I'll back to this build or anything else at this point in time. I need to really sit and think on a lot of things. It's not only guitars but a lot of other things as well that I need to do some thinking about.
Something has got to change. Be it a whole new direction or another way of doing stuff or both. All I know something has to change. So, like I said I will be taking some time off to hopefully clear my head so I can focus on what I am to do.

I identify with your mindset Eddie because things go wrong like dominos for me too, but for a different reason; you have great timber working skills that I do not. When I watch Dane using a chisel, I think "how'd he do dat?" because the chisel seems to follow its own path in my hands (I guess sharpness is the key?) Likewise sawing, the cut inevitably deviates and I always seem to be "rescuing" things! I'd probably be alright with a router though because I used them at work.
I'm never going to "build" a guitar like you guys- screwing and bolting together is my limit, but we all derive whatever enjoyment we can within our limitations. Mine comes from being accepted as a part of this community, albeit on the fringes! You simply have to finish it Eddie for no better reason than your son put all that work into the leather. Just kick back a while and sniff the breeze.

Thanks guys!
I know I will finish this build. At the time I don't know how soon. I have to say it has felt good to take some time away from it.
What is kind of funny is that seems when I take a brake form one thing then something else pops up.
Once again here of late been doing a lot with technology. WIFI, Cell phones, computers and other things. I seen the other day my wife's cell phone was way out date on software. So after 10 hours of downloading the up dates I was able to get her phone working smooth again. It had a lot of things going on with it before.
And of course my on going issues with the WIFI. Or internet. Works good for a few days, then it's back to doing what it feels like doing. Like super slow internet. Things taking forever to load. Don't think I'll ever cure that until we get moved so I can better internet service.
I have a laptop I think is trying to die on me. I still need to open it up to see if I can figure out whats going on with it. Not looking forward to that.
After a lot of thought and talking with the wife, I decide on getting me a new phone. I bit the bullet and ordered me a new iPhone 13 Pro. It should be here this Sat. My iPhone 7 plus has seen better days. It has had it's screen replaced on it twice and I had the battery replaced last year. I have had that phone for like 6 years now. So I guess it's time to move up.
I wonder how long I'll have this one? I was watching some videos of the new cell phones coming out over the next few years. WOW! is all I can say. But it will be like another 10 years before I can get like the 2024 models. LOL! I really can't afford the 13 pro. I went with it because I would like to do better videos. After I seen what my daughter has been doing with here 13 pro. I though it would be nice to do the videos I do with a better cleaner look. Plus it has better technology than my 7 could ever think of having.
So I am excited in getting it.
In 2024 or 25 Apple is supposed to come out with what they call a fold phone. Right now they are trying to decide what direction to have it fold in. They may do both where it folds in half in one of two directions. By 24 there will be no more charging ports or any buttons or notches on the phones. Seems it's not just Apple that will be doing this.
Well, anyways, I did get to go do a gig last night with a new friend. He is a song writer. But, he says he can't play and sing at the same time. It's funny how he can write great songs, and can't play and sing them. But he is right about that. He would try and show me the just of the song and I would and up and take over.
He says to me. " I can tell you have been playing a long time. You know where I am going before I do!" LOL!
It was a fun night. Felt good to go play some music again. I played on my acoustic. It was nice to do an acoustic set. That Fender acoustic I got here while back is awesome! One of the best acoustics I have ever owned. I'll have to make a video of it. Such a versatile guitar and it's smaller in size than most acoustics. Many people last night even said that the guitar sounded great and wanted to know what brand guitar it is. All I know, is I do like it!
