Yep already thing of my next build. My wife was going to through away a cutting board. So I took it and decided I would make some kind of a guitar out of it. Kind of like a cigar box guitar.
Here are the woods I am going to use. The cutting board is bamboo. It has a cool ring tone to it. So, It should be good to use for this build. The other woods so far is some oak.
The fun thing about a build like this is that there are no rules on how to do things. Except some basic stuff like setting the neck and bridge. Other than that it all up to the build on what to do.
I may be jumping the gun a little on this but OH well... This will be a lot of fun. It will end up being a 5 string guitar. I will use that other neck that I messed up (size wise) on this build. I might end up using two tele neck pickups on this one. To far in the future, It's kind of hard to see just yet. LOL!
I will come up with my own bridge for it. So, I'll see what I come up with. I do have some interesting plans for this. So, I'll see how things go. I won't start this until the other build is close to being done. The only thing holding me up on my other build is them side markers.

This project is going to be as Bo Diddley as I'm going to get. LOL!
Well, I guess I kind of started on this. I started drawing out the lines and figuring out what will go were. This should go pretty fast since I already have the neck for it. I will need to come up with 2 Neck Tele pickups. That shouldn't be to hard to get.
This is going to a nice fun build. I'll be make a bridge for this one. I'll be making it out of wood. I made them before, but it's also been a really long time. HA!

Eddie, this should be fun. Yes it is kind of cool not having "normal constraints" of a "real" guitar. I've got a gourd that will be a sort of mandolin some day.

Great idea Eddie. I've often wondered whether Bo Diddley just wanted an electric solid body cigar box guitar? I've only just realised that Bo Diddley is just Diddly Bow back to front isn't it? Was I the only one that failed to get it? D'oh- FacePalm. Looking forward to it Eddie, bring it on!

This is the neck that I somehow profiled it to 2" and not 2 3/16th nor 2 1/4" But 2"/ I was so up set at myself. But at least I can use it for this build. I'll have to fill in one hole with something.
And yes it will be using alternate tuning.

It is such a nice day out today... Finally... So needed to do some stuff out side.
I did some starting work on this project today. I really needed to get outside. We have been indoors because of the weather for to long.
I was glad to see that it was a good day.
Here is the top of this build. It was or is a cutting board. It is bamboo. About 1/2" thick.
I went to a hardware store and bought some Oak for doing the sides, front and back. I cut them a set it on the top to make a box.
I put center marks on the top, front and back of the box. I then glued everything up and clamped it.
All clamped up. I'll let this dry over night.
The next thing up for this build will be making a center piece that will go down the middle of the body. This will also help for the mounting of the neck.
Once out of the clamps I am going to round off the corners to match up with the top better. Yes I made sure that there is enough wood to do that. LOL!
This build should go pretty fast. I need to order 2 Tele neck pickups for it. I also need to pots and a 3 way switch. Oh and a input OT pout put jack for it. HA!
I'll be making a bridge, tail piece, and nut for it as well. It will be cool to hear this thing.

What do you think it will weigh? Still probably not as much as a solid body?

What do you think it will weigh? Still probably not as much as a solid body? It feels like it's as heavy as my other build I am doing right now. By the time I put the back on it and the neck, it will be as heavy as my other build or around the same as a Tele. EB

When I got home from Church today, I seen that hardly anyone was home. So, I did some work on this guitar today. I only worked it for maybe an hour and half.
here it is out of the clamps.
I used my band saw to cut the corners off. I then tried to use my table belt sander to round off what was left. But I found out my angle sander worked a lot faster and was able to clean up on the belt sander.
I dug through my wood pile and found a piece of wood that is the cut off from the neck that I will be using. This will be the neck heal routing. This will be a set neck. So here it is all glued up and clamped. I will leave it this way over night. I like to let my glue up to dry as long as I can. I see where people will take things out of clamps after an hour or two. Never worked out for me. So I live things clamped up.

This is fun! Going to look like a cutting board with strings. Cool! Yep! On my way to the hardware store today, to get some parts to make the bridge. Also some other things for it.
If nothing else this will be something I have not seen. A one of a kind build for now. I know there have been other cutting boardish builds out there. But not like this one. LOL!
One thing I have discovered in making guitars is, that once in while it pays off to do something out of the box. For me it keeps me going. I haven't built a cigar box guitar in a lot of years now. So when I seen my wife about to through this away, I thought way not?

I really fancied a go at a CBG, but I grew tired of trying to find a box on eBay at an even remotely sensible price. Doesn't mean I've ruled it out, just that I can wait.
