So, while I wait on some things, I decided to do some routing on this build. I is an awesome day out. I hated to come in. But I know when I need to stop. But I think or feel I got a lot done on this build.
To kick things off. Yep, I was at Harbor Freight and seen these clamps. I bought 3. Two of them are the same size. And the other one is smaller.
I am able to use the smaller one as kind of a fence. I had to add some wood to it so I can slide a long piece of wood through. It works out great!
So, I had a lot of ideas for a bridge. But I settled for cutting up an old Squire bridge. I used my dremel with a cut off disk. It took 3 of them but I was able to get the bridge cut down.
Here is part of a bunch of stuff I have for my Dremel. When I was still in AZ I bought this huge box of stuff for $10.00. In it was all kinds of stuff a Dremel. I never have to go and get any for it. LOL!
What I shown you is only a small part of what I have.
After some sand on my bench top sander I was able to get my 5 string bridge to look good. Should do what I need it to.
Here I am hogging out the wood for the pickups. One of the cool things I like about my new drill press is that it has a depth adjustment right by the handles. It works well, and so easy to use. I like it a lot better than the side adjustment with the two nuts.
Once I got the pickup holes hogged out. I placed my template on the body. I put a small bering bit into my small router. I rout out the the first layer of wood. I rout out the pickup routs in 3 sometimes 4 passes. Do not try and force a router. It can jump out and hurt you and your project.
After my first pass, I then remove the template, and then adjust my router for another pass.
Here is the bridge pickup cavity all done.
Here are both pickup routs done. The cool thing on this is that I won't have to drill holes for wires to go through. Since this is almost all hallow and the center block I put in is not as wide as the pickups. It left some openings so I can route the wires through. One of them lucky kind of things. It was not planed. LOL!
Here is a picture of how I rearranged my little shop. So far it is working really well. So nice not to have keep on moving things around. I can now walk up to any of my power tools and use them.
OK, working with wood is really all about the saw dust. So here you go. All this dust out of two pickup routs and deepening the neck pocket. LOL!
Because of the bridge I used I had to go deeper in the neck pocket to get the neck to work out right. Here is the neck all clamped up and glued. I always test thing out right before setting the neck.
Here is how far down I had to go. That fret board is super thick. Going to make a nut out of some left over ebony.
Well, I had a really great day today. The weather is awesome right now. Things worked out well, got to make some wood dust. Can't ask for more. So Glad I was feeling better today so that I could get as far as I did on this cool project.
My CA glue is supposed to here today. So once the neck is ready to com out of the clamps I can glue in the side dot markers. On the finish, I am thinking of only doing 2 or 3 coats of tung oil. I don't want it to be shinny,

Great progress today Eddie. Just so more more fun to be alive when the sun is shining. the bridge worked out cool too. Yep! I love being outside. I spent some time looking out at the tress and the cool deep blue sky's. Supper nice day yesterday. I have not been out yet today.
Today I'll be placing the bridge on. Once that is in place, I'll need to drill for the controls and switch and input jack. Then after that 2 or 3 coats of tung oil finish, then wait on the parts to come in.
It will be together before I know it. LOL!

I did do some work on this today. I didn't get any pictures as of yet. Mostly, what I did today was drill holes for mounting the bridge, volume and tone pots, Input jack, and I mounted the flip up back. Still nee to install the magnet for the lid.
It was a fun day out. I got to use 3 of my drills today. My hand crank drill, my electric hand drill and my drill press. It was so cool to have tools for the right job.
Yesterday I did buy and hand plane that turned out to be junk. So I took it back today. I did get some of my stuff I ordered in today. So that was cool, should get the rest tomorrow, but I know how that can change. LOL!
I have the guitar mocked up with most of it's parts on. Waiting on the pickups. I also still need to make the string nut and the pickup rings. But sometime tomorrow, I may get started on finish sanding and start putting the tung oil on. I'll see how things go in the morning. Supposed to be a guy coming over with some guitars that need some work. I'll see if he shows up or not. You know how guitar players are. HA! HA!

Can't skimp on hand planes. You'd be better off to buy a used on at a garage sell and flatten the base and sharpen it up. Way ahead of anything you could get from an off brand maker like Great Neck.

OK Kids we are on our way to getting this cutting board guitar done. Here are some more exciting pictures of what's going on...
These next pictures are showing that all the holes have been drilled. This guitar will have one volume one tone and LP 3 way switch.
Input jack and the holes for the hinges for the back cover are drilled.
The side markers have been glued in and filled with CA glue. So glad the CA glue came in.
Yes I have started the tung oil finish. Please note that I am using 0000 steal wool to help work the finish into the top. This bamboo really soaked up the tung oil finish.
First coat is on more to come. I think that 3 to 4 will be all this one needs.
The back with one coat of finish.
While the finish is drying, I decided to make the pickup rings. I make my rings extra thick like in the picture. So that I can make them once and then cut it in half to get the two rings needed for this build. I looked through my scrap pile and found a cut off for the neck I used for this build.
Before I cut this in half I drill the holes I need for the pickup.
Here are my 2 pickup rings.
Pickup rings with their first coat of finish.
The pickup rings came out pretty good. Once I found the block of wood to use I drew out the ring. I then drilled out the center and used files and sand paper to get the center look close. I used on of the pickup for testing fit. Once I got the pickup fitting I then used my band saw and ruff cut the shape of the ring. I used my table belt sander to finish up the shaping. Took about an hour to get these made. I tried to find wood with that stripe in it that would have been running in the center of the pickup. But I had nothing wide enough to do that. So I put the strip the other way. For those of you that know me, This has become my signature on most of my builds. That my pickup rings have some kind of strip in them. LOL!
So I have one more coat of finish to put on. That will happen today. I'll let it sit all nigh then I'll do the final sanding or more likely steel wool. Then I'll clean it up and start putting it together.
I am thinking it will be my first post on You Tube. I started a new channel called Eagle Blues custom guitars. This will be a sound video not of the build. But I thought I would try and do a sound video of this and see how it goes. Once I get the video done. I'll post here.

Cool Eddie, looking good! Thanks Dane!
I should be able to start putting this guitar together tomorrow. Got the rest of the parts in yesterday. No I'm sorry still waiting on the tone caps. They should be here tomorrow. If I am lucky and the wind is blowing right!
Once I get this done. I am going to start to make 3 or 4 neck blanks out of some of that teak wood I bought. I will start another thread on that.

Ok, got a lot done today.
here is the third and finial coat of tung oil finish. It has been drying all nigh and is ready for me to go over with some steel wool. All I'll be doing is knocking off the roughness.
here is something I now do for b the grounding wire. I use some copper tape. so that when the wire is in place it will be sandwiched between the bridge and the body.
I also like to tin the wire before putting in place.
This will make fore a really good ground.
The bridge is in place and the saddles are in place.
Remember the thing I said about holes for the wires to go through?
Starting to come together!
Some left over ebony I have from my other build. It will become the nut.
After a lot of sanding and some shaping the nut is glued on.
here she is all put together.
Sometime tomorrow I'll fish up some things. I need to put on some wires for the input jack. I'll wire it all up. I need to go the hardware store and get a magnet for the back cover. I also will need to work on the nut string slots. Do a set up on it. See how it sounds and plays. I hope I don't have to any fret leveling. But so far there is no rocking fret rocker. LOL!
I think this project has been a load of fun. My wife really likes it a lot. Once done I will make a video of it.
So until we meet again... Happy trails to you... EB
I used my drill press to make counter sinks for the mounting screws. I then used my hand drill to drill the holes into the body.

For some reason when posting it would not post the one picture in order. But It did let me post it last. Go figure. EB

Didn't do anything on any of my projects today. It is my wife's birthday. So, I had to spoil her. We spent the whole day together. We had a great day.
I might do some work on this project tomorrow.

Strange as it may appear to the afflicted and addicted, occasionally something trumps guitars in the queue for attention. Happy belated birthday to Eddie's beloved.

I got it wired up. All is good that way. Now to put the strings on, oh and I need to put the screws in for the tuners. I also need to put the magnets in to help hold the lid shut.
I do have one string on for testing. So it does fire up. Yet another one that has no shielding and is super quite. I had to pluck the string to see if made any sound. So cool!
We are going out tonight for dinner. So, I have to stop on this today. Tomorrow, I'll put the rest of the strings on and start the setup process.
On the wiring; You would think that after all this time I would remember how to wire these up. LOL! The fact is I did remember. I didn't solder on of the ground wires on that makes everything work. HA! Only took me an hour to figure that out. The wire end was under one of the pots. I thought it was one of the wire that I had soldered. But no!! Soldered it on and everything works!!!
From what I can tell (with one string on) This guitar is going to sound pretty good. Can hardly wait to get this going.
