Epoxy earned me a living and therefore amongst other things paid for my house Eddie. Last week I was on holiday/ vacation, and the property owner's father invented (as in conceived and developed) epoxy adhesives to build a new design of airplane that he couldn't interest any manufacturers in taking up. He needed a better adhesive than what was available in the middle of the last century. He also developed honeycomb cored boards- and together with epoxy adhesives, that summed up pretty much everything we manufactured! Pure coincidence but intriguing nonetheless.
Onwards and upwards Bro'.

The weather here has been super nice again. So I have been working on the build. Trying to get paint and the clear on while I have a chance.
I'll put up some pictures of it later on.

here is where things are at so far today.
After a whole lot of sanding the black lacquer is going on. This is with 2 coats. I just did a 3rd one.
It's getting there. One more coat of black then I'll let dry over night and do some more sanding.
This is my spray booth. It is a box I had left over from moving. It's for clothing.
What is nice about it, it has this cross bar (metal) makes it nice for hanging the guitar. The box should work out OK. I have been trying to figure out a way so that I can turn the guitar for spraying. I'll be using this to spray on the clear. I hope it works out well.
Getting close to the end of my day. If I feel like it later on tonight I might file the nut on Ms Candy. LOL! That don't sound right! HA! HA! HA! EB

Neat idea with the "spray booth" Eddie. I don't need to tell you to watch out for blow back because I'm guessing it's a rattle can job?

It is looking great. I love the spray booth, too.
How did you like the polycrylic? Also, what paint did you use to do the burst and neck?

John Well for some reason I can't post a picture of the spry can black lacquer I used. But it is made by Rust-Oleum I have used this paint before and never had an issue out of it. It drys fully in about an hour. It seems to dry hard too. Not soft like some paints do. Getting so hard to find any paint that is lacquer these days.
The polycrylic worked out really well. It too drys fast and dry completely within a few hours. I was surprised that it worked so well. I did a test with it before I put it on the guitar peg head. It also seem to be compatible with other clears as well. I wish now I had sealed off the whole guitar with it. I will do just that on the next cloth top I do.
The spray booth should work out well for my needs. I don't think the HOA will get onto me about it. LOL!

Been looking into an air compressor and spray gun. But it's not in the cards at this time. Maybe after we find a house to live in. I hope that will be next year.

OK, Now that I have Ms Candy up and playing, it's time to get back on this build. I don't know how soon that will happen do to that the weather is super humid right now. But I will press on as I can.
I have been doing some experiments along the way. Been testing out different clears for this build. I now have a lot tied up in clears. LOL! But, believe it or not, I found that the lacquer seems to work best with the Epoxy Resin. One of the clears I used does not seem to what to cure on the epoxy. I can't remember the name of it right now. But it goes on super thick and seems to have a super long cure time. So I wont be using that.
The other one is a brush on. It works well, and has a faster cure time. But the Lacquer sprayed on nice and smooth, with hardly any orange peel. So, as of right now I think I'll be using lacquer on this build.
here is the lacquer. I can get this at Lowe's hardware. It's the first time in a long time I have been able to find anything with the word Lacquer on it. It does sell out fast! So it's still a hit and miss kind of thing.
I hope after all this that this guitar turns out as good as Ms Candy. It's been a long and on going adventure doing this build. But, I will not give up on it. Once this one is done I already have another build I want to get started on. I now have all but one part for it. It should be a fun one to build as well.

Do to the weather here is build is on hold. It's been super humid, and it's been raining a lot of late. Hard telling when I'll be able to get back on this.
Sure wish I had my old shop back now.
I will get this done, just not as fast as I was wanting to.

We have rain all this week.
I did pickup 2 acoustic guitars that need work. They are both from customers. One has to have the bridge remounted and the other need the action lowered a little bit and new string.
But again, I don't know when I'll get back to this build. It's frustrating not to be able to work on it. Maybe next week I'll get a brake in the weather. LOL!

Today I decided to get back to work on this build. I am all done working on the guitars that had come in. Returned the last one yesterday. The customer was so surprised at how well it came out. It was an other acoustic were the bridge came unglued. It was in bad shape but now plays better than when new and looks really good. Well, he was really happy.
So it's been a long while since I had my hands on this build. I had to stop and look it over to remember where I left off. It all came back to me. LOL! The horns was where I left off at. So, I sanded on them for about an hour, before my dinner was ready. I have another hour or two of sanding to do.
Once the sanding is done, then I'll be spraying some more black lacquer on it. Let that dry for a day or two and see where I stand on it. I hope I can do some lite sanding and start the clear coats going on.
I do nee to redrill some holes that got covered up in putting the cloth on. I may do that tomorrow before I do anymore sanding.
It is still hot and humid here, but not as humid as has been. I think I might get away with the clear going on. I had to spray some clear on one of the guitars I worked the other day and it came out looking really good. But that was on the peg head and not a whole guitar.
I haven't taken any pictures as of yet. I didn't think anyone would like to see me sanding. HA!

My own builds always take a back seat to repair work unless of course it's a client build. But I do a lot more repairs than new guitars.
Looking forward to this one.

I haven't had any money coming in for the hobby. It's all been coming out of our account. So it's been nice to have some come in to replace what I have been using. I wish I could keep it coming in. Super slow start for me here. Not like AZ was. I had people bring me in stuff all the time there. Plus the COVID stuff has hurt a lot of it.
It rained again last night here. So, the humidity is back up today. So, I may not get to the painting part of the build today. EB

Didn't get a lot done today. I had to go to a doctors appointment.
I did some redrilling of the holes. Well most of them.
I also did a lot more sanding on it. It's in the 90's with a lot of humility. So I worked on it until I got over heated. Plus I wasn't feeling to good after seeing the doctor. But a little at time and it will get done.
I am still thinking of doing a video on the Tele with the ash tray. I may do that later on or sometime tomorrow. This build is coming along. Hope to get a lot more done on it by the week end. I really want to get the clear on it soon.
