Well, has a little problem with the finish on this build as well as my other one.
On this one the new Tung oil finish I bought is not the same mix as my old can. Hum... I did put it on the guitar and everything seemed OK but it would not dry all the way like my old can does.
I was about to scuff it up some before I used my old stuff. But this does look like it was the right move. The old tung oil finish seems to have fixed the problem. I have enough of it to do the whole guitar. So that is what I'll do.
Glad this one I could fix without being a big pain!

I know there may be other variables such as ambient temperature, humidity or atmospheric pressure and even agitation technique during the mixing process, but leaving all that to one side, it would be appreciated (at least by myself) if you would quote the Tung Oil brand names Eddie. I hope you turn this one around, I hate to see you in this frame of mind regarding a prohect that really excited you.

Looks like I'll be finishing the finish on this indoors. The weather here is bad. More rain and more rain means more humid. I really would like to get one of my two builds done.
This guitar is looking super! It look like candy to me. LOL! I need a few more days of applying the finish on it and it would be done, as far as the finish goes. Then it will be time to put it together and play the guitar. I'll then have a second video for YT to post. So I would say a couple of weeks I should have this build up and running.

I'll get some picture of it later on.

Here we go...
What you are seeing here is 5 coats of the Tung oil Finish. It is looking super good!
I get a lot of flack for using Tung oil finish. But it's pretty much been good to me over the years. But I will say I got a bad can of it. I am using what I have left in my older can. I hope I have enough to do the other side. The top of the guitar is looking great. I still need to add one more coat on the front. That will make it 7 coats total. I put on another coat before coming in for the day. If the weather holds out this guitars finish will be done tomorrow. Then I'll let it rest for a day or two, and do some color sanding. Then I'll buff it out and start putting this one together.
To me the guitar looks like you could eat it. Looks like candy. I think that is what I'll name the guitar Ms. Candy. I like to name my guitar builds. LOL!

Well it looks a real doozy to me Eddie. That Tung Oil is simply great for when you don't have sprayshop facilities, but it's certainly no compromise solution the way you do it.

Thanks guys! Yep it is looking really good! The one thing that I didn't realize was the Teak wood would soak up the tung oil finish as it has. As oil/waxy the wood feels I didn't think it would soak up the oil like it has been. Just one of them things that make ya go hum...
If everything go well today, I should have the back all done with the tung oil finish. I'll let it sit for a day or two, do a lite sanding and buff it out. Then it will be time to put it all together. I just put the 3rd coat on a little bit ago. I'll check it in about an hour to see if I can apply another. It's another super nice day today. So, I should be able to reach my goal by the end of the day. EB

Well, I didn't get to my goal on how many coats I could get on. So I'll have to finish that tomorrow. But here are some pictures of were it's at today.
This is 5 coats of the Tung oil finish. It needs at least one more. It could also use more coats around the sides.
Yep, I took to long of nap to get it to where I wanted today. LOL!
So, I'll finish it up tomorrow. But she is looking so good! I know I have said I get a lot of flack for using this kind of finish. But I now have guitars that are over 15 years old that I have used this stuff on. They still look as good as the day I put it on. I have gotten to where I don't really care anymore in what people have to say about it. I have proof that this Tung Oil Finish works and it works well. It does not do all of the stuff, like getting sticky, or clumping up. Never had a problem with it at all.
The other plus it has it don't take weeks for it to dry/cure. The only draw back on it is, it does have a amber color to it and it will make the wood darker then other finishes. But so far on wood I think it looks awesome! So people can go ahead and say what ever they want. I think I have this down to a since now.
But on another note, on the back side it soaked up more of the Tung Oil Finish than the top did. It's almost like a sponge. Still can't understand why. Unless the wood was dried out at the factory that made the slabs of wood.
Well, I am excited to get this one so close to the end. I wish now I could have bought better pickups for it. I could not at the time I stared this build afford better ones. But it will be interesting to hear what it sounds like with what I got.

Man that looks so sweet. I prefer not to see natural grain covered up with paint.

I really like the teak wood. Not only does it look good, it’s easy to carve. I have enough of the wood to build an other guitar. But I would like to do a different shape. Or do one like this one and do a carved top with P90s in it. I’ll have to do some thinking on it. I need to get the two I’m working on done. EB

Well, I ended up putting 7 coats on it total on the back.
Letting it take up then I'll hang it up for a day or two then do lite sanding and buffing. The sanding is only to knock down dust that gets in it. Not way of not getting dust in the works. But a lite sanding will take care of it.
I really, really like this teak wood! Some of the prettiest wood I have seen.
here is where Ms. Candy is right now.
Wish I knew how to capture photos to make them look like what I see here. This guitar is outstanding! I almost want to hang it on the wall unfinished. It looks that good to me! But then there is the other part of me that says... I GOT TO HEAR THIS GUITAR MAKE SOUND!...
So in a couple of days I should be able to make her into a playing guitar.
If I have enough time today, I may get back on the other build. Lots and lots of sanding on that one. EB
