I know what you mean Dane. With all that tension, my Guild F512 needs to be a bit stout really, but I also have that Yamaha LS400vt and it feels like balsa in comparison- very lightly built. I played a Taylor 12 string and it was much lighter in construction but it sounded a bit thin and jangly compared to the Guild. I have the Takemine Dread but I've kind of gone off that design although I confess it's a visual thing.

All this acoustic guitar talk has really got me wondering why I haven't started building mine yet. I've got all the wood.

I guess the moral to the story is never play a guitar you can't afford because that could ruin your other guitars for you. I have experienced this more than once but the worst time was when I played and older Santa Cruz OM size. The Santa Cruz came in for some crack repair which Brazilian rosewood guitars are plagued with. It had a fairly pronounced V neck and played and sounded beyond amazing. It was for sale and I have lusted after that guitar for years now, but at about 4K it's way out of my reach. Very true, Dane....sometimes you just know when you pick the right one up and it just speaks to you. I've found the same phenomenon with electrics played acoustically...some are just alive. Here is a story from years ago about my acoustic "a-ha" moment. I still have the Larivee, and it sounds even better now. guitarattack.com/opinion/acoustictone.htmJohn

This Washburn is $899. The one in the video. Made of Koa wood.

Sometimes when I take on off the wall and before I sit down to pay it I know it's the one I want.
But here lately I can't seem to find that just right acoustic. And now with this virus stuff going on I have not been able to go play one. I am not a fan of buying on line guitars, as you well know. I am in no real hurry to go out and buy anything.
But when I seen this Wasburn, I was wondering if I should take a chance on it. I have been trying (through email) to get hold of some one at Sweatwater but so far no one has gotten back to me.
Not to many videos on the guitar I am looking at. But Washburn has been around a long time. I have worked on a few and have like them a lot! Even their less expensive ones. The Gibson equal to this Washburn is a whole lot more money.
I really don't have the money to go out and spend on a $2,000 or higher priced acoustic. I really don't want to buy used, but If I find the right one I guess I would.
I did think of buying an acoustic kit and putting it together. But by the time I get the kit and put it together, I really don't know what I am getting until it's done.
I am sure the right one will come along at some point. If had not needed the money at the time of this move, I would have kept what I had.

The fact that you still remember that Santa Cruz is testament to the fact that you should have grasped the nettle with both hands. You only live once and if'n there's even an iota of regret then I reckon that you made the wrong choice. I have zero regrets, in fact regret owes me at least one!
We've had (it's still going) a street party here for VE Day. All the neighbours have ended up outside our house (allegedly observing social distancing rules ...)
We've just listened to "The Queen's Speech" on the wireless and it's kind of of a strange experience. I haven't seen this social interaction in my life time. Folks are dancing in the middle of the street and Glen Miller is playing. Happy daze!

Steve, I think I will be starting that guitar sooner than later. I can't let this summer go by without making this happen! It must be a great feeling to be out in the streets after quarantine, even at a safe distance, celebrating. Might feel a lot like it did 75 years ago celebrating because you feel safe again. Not to minimize in the least what England went through in that war.
John, I remember having read that story before. It's a great story and because I'm such a complete guitar geek it's warms my soul to know you guys found each other.
Eddie, that Washburn sure does look nice but to my ears it doesn't have any shimmer in the tone. But really that could up to the strings. That's why we always say not to buy a guitar on line. Other thing you can't do on line is feel if the neck is talking to you.

Yep, I think I am going to wait until the music stores open back up. It's not like I don't a guitar to play. I might put my USA tele back on line to see if I can trade it for an acoustic. It would be hard for me to trade that Tele. But if the right acoustic came a long I might trade it off.
I am so gun shy in buying guitar on line. Been down that road a few times. 4 times to many that is... LOL! Well one of them did work out great. The other 3 not so good.
I bought a Martin acoustic on line. I tried so hard to like it, but after about a year of playing it I was done with it. I sold it for what I had bought it for. So, that was cool! But you are right that the neck has got to feel right for me.
Dane, the Koa wood does have a darker sound to it. If you listen to some of the others made of other woods they are brighter. I like my acoustics to be on the darker side of the sound. My Takamine acoustic was super bright. Almost to bright for me.
But again yes, I think I am going to hold off. Not in no big hurry.

Maybe check out "Walden", "Faith", "Blueridge" and "Recording King" guitars? I have no hands-on experience of any of them, but I can read between the lines of magazine reviews (which are one rung up the ladder of mediocrity from online reviews) and they seem to get consistent good write-ups. In particular, Recording King seem to be well regarded for parlour / parlor guitars so perhaps they have the same commitment across their range? About the time that I bought my Yamaha LS400vt, I had Walden guitars right up near the top of my shortlist. When a marque doesn't really enjoy widespread market penetration, their instruments seem to go the extra furlong in an attempt to get a toe-hold, a "loss-leader" if you will? Of course there must be many other options Eddie- it's often held that "we've never had it so good" and "golden age of guitars" etc. Washburn springs to mind but I think you've covered that ground already? (I can't read back down the thread from within the composition window.) One thing I've learned is that you're pretty sharp and will end up with a guitar that 'speaks to you". Enjoy that ride Bro'.

Maybe check out "Walden", "Faith", "Blueridge" and "Recording King" guitars? e&oe ...Those are all good choices. The Recording King and Blueridge guitars both very cool. I’ve also had good luck with the Eastman guitars and mandolins. They make a $600 mandolin that is awesome! There are a lot of good choices, and the build quality tends to be of a very high standard now. The difference in money tends to be in finishing, quality of materials, and build location. I still like the Sigma guitars from the 70s and 80s....try to find one used. They were built in Japan and were great quality. Good Luck, John

For me I think I am going to hold off for a while longer. Hopeful the people in charge will let us out of this shut down soon. Around here there are more and more places opening up. I hope the music stores will reopen soon.
Right now a lot of people that are posting stuff for sale and not responding to their ads. So I don't know why they post stuff. LOL!
