Just read that Gibson sold their factory in Nashville! It said that the new location will be told at a later date. Has anyone else seen this? Could they be moving to another country like they had been talking about? Hum... EB

It is my understanding that Gibson is selling their factory in downtown Memphis. The building covers nearly an entire block and they reportedly only use a small portion of the facility.
Hate to see them move out of downtown Memphis.

It doesn't sound too great for the employees?
I suppose it depends upon how far they move? Overseas would be awful for those guys, but remember how the guys that started Heritage Guitars refused to upsticks and relocate to Nashville?
Gibson trade on their name and history to some extent. The "Made in The USA" cachet is (or should be) valuable to them. If they relocate overseas then they will lose that "Made in The USA" USP. I figure they have to retain a USA presence or they're dead in the water.

But there have been some other guitar company's that have done just that or are in the processes of doing so. Gibson's complaint is the restrictions on woods and some other issues, that over seas don't have. So maybe too they are looking at the cost of building guitars in the USA. I don't know what will happen. But it sad that so many are going else where. There for a while even Fender was talking of moving out of the USA. They do have a factory in Mexico. But yes, the, made in the USA is getting to be a thing of the past around here. I don't see things changing to fast around here to keep company's here. Of course if they start taxing the imports of goods coming into the USA, then some company's may elect to stay here. Hum... who knows... EB

OK, I'm not your typical customer, but IF I was about to purchase (yet!) another guitar and the choice was between an offshore "Gibson" start up or (for example) a high end Yamaha, I'd go for the Yammy. Then again I'm a Yamaha fan boy so I would say that wouldn't I.
Actually, I think I'd go for one of yours or Danes guitars now after watching these video clips you guys put up! The finished articles always leave my wallet twitching ;<D

They are all great guitars for the money. But I also like my custom built guitars. When I get one out to play, it still gets to me, that I built those guitars. It still gets to me too, when someone comes over and plays one of my custom guitars and people go WOW! What a great guitar! I don't think I'll ever get back to building customs again. I am going to finish a few that I started and never finished for one reason or another. But after that who knows. I may build a kit guitar or find a cheap guitar and rebuild it. I do that a lot still. I also know I'll be working on guitars for people. I was pretty busy this past summer working on guitars for others. Kept me busy anyway. EB

There are a lot of rumors floating around Nashville about the future of Gibson, but, for the time being, they are just rumors. It seems like everybody I know either works for Gibson or used to work for Gibson. That is a common theme/joke in Nashville...every guitar player you see playing downtown has a record contract, an endorsement deal, and used to work for Gibson.

There's a local guy here that is a mail carrier that worked back there at Gibson. They're everywhere.
Bummer about closing the shop but maybe they will find something local enough to keep on the present employees.

Me and some of my buddy's tease about songs of the past, ... they were all written by the Beatles! LOL! EB

Eddie, I had a 66 toy landcrusier with a 327 Corvette engine. Honest HA! HA! Back when I was building cars, seemed that was everyone would say. HA! All I could say back or thing of was, "sure were a lot of Vett's without their small blocks!" LOL! I did have one too Dane, a Vet motor, 327. But only on name. Once I rebuilt it she was pushing right at 500 horse power. So no longer could I call it a Vet motor. The car I had in in was in my 69 Z28. Wish I could have her back. I had 2 69's at the same time. The other one was a SS. OH well, I had fun in them days! EB

Another Gibson product bites the dust: As of November 17, 2017, Gibson Brands, Inc, has officially ceased new product development of all Cakewalk branded software. A note from our CTO (with formal announcement from Gibson) can be found at the following link: www.cakewalk.com/announcementI used Cakewalk software from 2001 to 2013 when I switched to Protools and an IMac. This is sad news. John

I saw on the Memphis newspaper's website yesterday that Gibson had finalized the sale of their facility in downtown Memphis and that they were looking for a place in the greater Memphis area to move the production of guitars.
I think the Gibson guitars coming out of Memphis are fantastic...I hope they don't have a break in production.
