Hi guys, got a new project going and have some videos to post. These are in real time so in some places it's like watching grass grow but I wanted folks to get a sense of how it goes.

Interesting comment about the belt 'n' braces bridge plate. I figure that as soon as you bond braces to the underside of an acoustic's soundtable, you automatically throttle it anyway? (let alone a bridge plate.)
My Sobell acoustic has a similar piece of timber bonded around the soundhole. It has the sweetest, most robust tone and wonderful projection and evenly balanced note separation you could wish for, yet it makes the soundtable "look" a good 0.20" thick. As far as I'm concerned, there's a great deal about acoustics than cannot be pigeon holed by critical analysis.
When I made sheet metal ventilation ducting, we used to cross-crease the panels to STOP them from vibrating. Sometimes we used to swage them for the same purpose. This is why I can't get my head around braces bonded to a surface that is intended to vibrate as freely as possible. Still, what sounds good, sounds good. Great standard of descriptive video Dane.

Antares, there are all kinds of new and or different top designs out there now, many I'm sure I don't even know about. The double top with the wafer material sandwiched in between still boggles my mind, but works. The old standard is a top that is roughly .120 thou, about an 1/8" with Braces that are sized to control how much the top moves. Of course every builder thinks they have the perfect combination.
Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment.

When one Stefan Sobell's guitars was exhibited at a show over in the USA, some of the top tree American luthiers were pouring over it with dental mirrors exclaiming that you shouldn't build guitars that way, but one of them purchased an example for his self... So far as I'm aware, another "name" maker has bought one too although it could be the same person because I don't know any of the names. www.sobellguitars.com/new-world-model/Don't ask how much! It was a 12 year itch finally realised and not regretted in any way, shape or form. I know the arguments about expensive instruments, but despite the law of diminishing returns, you can't buy the inspiration that comes packaged with a thing of beauty. Anyway, enough of all that. I take it that the new Blueshawk going to benefit from John's pick ups? e&oe...

Here's #2
Antares, o man did you score one with Brazilian rosewood? Fine looking instrument. There's a BR Santa Cruse 00 that's for sale from a friend but at 6 large way out of my range. If I had the cash I'd buy it, it's the sweetest sounding guitar I've ever had in my hands and the looks are amazing.
About Johns pick ups, I really struggled with which ones to go with because I really love the P90s he made me but I routed for hummers because being a spec guitar I think most folks like more tonal possibilities. I like Johns pups a lot and he's very good to work with.

Nope. Mine is Wenge back, sides and neck with an Adirondack spruce top. I can hear the difference between rosewood and mahogany, but I can't hear the difference between rosewood and wenge. As I said, I used to work in a sheet metal shop! I bought it at a substantial discount because there was a binding routing fault repaired beautifully with a grain matched piece donated from the sound hole offcut. I can live with such a nigh on invisible flaw because the sound, workmanship and playability is superb. If I hadn't been told, I would probably have bought it anyway whether I spotted it or not because I would have had my rose coloured spectacles afixed! I suspect that the cost of the labour and timbers meant that something had to be recuperated? Unfortunately, this thread is not the place to dwell at length on its charms!
I noticed that you didn't use the heat shield, but like most peeps I guess, I was too absorbed in the "lesson" to give it any further thought. I can't figure out how you can spare the required concentration for the job in hand by videoing it, but it sure is appreciated. Neck resets are a black art that the rest of us talk about in hushed terms!
You had a Grammer through your shop? Wow! I know a guy over there with a Grammer and it made me read up on their history.

I'll bet it still sounds amazing, Wenge should be beautiful to look at as well.
Still have the grammer in the shop and I'm doing some video on it. Also just got a beautiful old es345 in today

It's like experiencing the thrumm of a grand piano on your lap but it comes at a price. Even at the heavily discounted price I paid, I could have nearly bought two of those Santa Cruz guitars... I'm 15 months into it now, and I still get that buzz when I release the case locks. I have also invested in some "Crafter" humidity/temperature doo-hickeys for this and a couple of others. Anyway, as I said before- back to your thread methinks!

Thanks to you guys taking the time to watch. This is the last video getting the fret board extension loose. Steaming the neck takes less time.

Ok folks, in this next 30 min vid the neck comes out. About as text book as I've had it happen or seen it in any other vids. This runs straight through the process no edit.

Cool stuff! Thanks for posting this. I am working a 12 string EPI. Mine has a bolt on neck. It was given to me. I have the body in a trash bag with water in trying to get the top to come back into shape. I was going to post it. But I wanted to see if I could get the body going the way I wanted before I do. Well, anyways it's good learning tool for me if nothing else. EB

Great video Dane. The Mrs. even put down her sudoku book to watch it because I had the PC switched on for once! Now comes the really clever bit huh?
