I find I'm usually playing with the neck PU as well. Maybe the front 2 on my strat.

I got strings on the beast and it plays! What a project! The filler in the cavities is there to fill holes left from the original P-90 routes. I'm going to level the frets and get it playing properly this week. I hope to start putting a finish on it next week. I would like to leave the top without holes. It think it looks really cool. I will probably go with one push/pull pot as a single volume/ pickup switcher. More to follow, John Attachments:

That's gonna be a beaut. Did you say what finish you were going with?

The one knob deal will be cool, but I always want a tone pot available. Don't know why though, I never use the thing:)

Dane - I am considering a transparent red for the top and a dark brown for the back and neck.

Sounds great John, I love red guitars. With the grain in that top, sweet.
Hoz, I tend to leave the tone on 10 but lately I've been rolling it back just a tad and really loving the, whatever you call that tone. I've called it Trower tone for years. Never the less the one I'm building now is getting a no load tone pot so when it's out it's really out.

Thanks, Dane....maybe blue! Haha
Anyway, I did a fret level and crown on the LP today, and it is key to get this rig playing right before I spend hours and hours putting a finish on it. The Floyd Rose setup can be difficult, and it has proven a worthy adversary during this build. The routing and installation has been tough, but I think it will turn out great.
I installed a set of black mini Grovers, and I have to say it is playing great. More to follow...maybe green?

I got the three back plates completed this morning. Wanted to make sure they fit and the trem/spring cavity was deep enough for the plate. Note the oblong switch cavity. Legend has it that Gibson did this so they could use SG-style switches in these guitars. John Attachments:

there are Legends of big foot too.... What really happened was someone messed up, and to save their job they put the switch in it, and said to their super... I meant to do that. HA! HA! Well, at lest that is what I would have done. LOL!
So John, quit messing around and get this guitar up and playing and make a cool video of it! Complete this guitar first then you can move on to other things.
OK, again just messing with you. Looking good.
I just had my maple and cherry LP out showing it to a friend of mine... He loves the pickups you made for it. Trying to get him to have some custom P90's like you made for Dane. I am building a custom carve top Tele for my friend. He's already paid me for the job, so guess I better get busy and start building it.

Ok Eddie...almost done.. I'm going with two knobs on the guitar with no switch like a regular Les Paul. Forward knob is master volume, back knob a master tone and push/pull for switching pickups. More to follow...what do you think? John Attachments:

Never been a fan of the 4 knob layout but I'm pretty lame at pulling a knob up quickly. Did you settle on a color yet the suspense is killing me.

I like the two knob thing. For me I would have just made them both volumes with a push pull to split the pickups. Looking good! EB

Ok..finally got the top done and the binding scraped. Scraping is my least favorite job. And Dane, the top is red. Lots of grain...hard to see in this photo. John Attachments:
