Im planning on buying a saga strat kit within the next few weeks. something ive decided i wanna do to it is give it burn marks on the headstock like on EVH's Frankenstrat or Eric Claptons Blackie. Anybody ever tried this or have any good ideas on how to go about doing this

As a non-smoker, I use a cheap soldering iron for those "bluesman cigarette burns" on the headstock. I burn it in layers, a little at a time. Too much looks fake, IMHO.
Good luck, and remember that the burn is probably irreversable. Try it at your own risk!

This may be a bit obvious, but have you thought of using a cigarette? Those burns get there by slipping a lit cigarette under the low E string and letting it burn right down to the filter.

yeah i thought about that. i just wasnt sure how well that would work. i dont wanna just jump in and try it without checkin around and seein what other people have tried. id rather find out if and how anyone else has tried it before i take a chance of ruining a headstock.

You're best bet is probably to use a soldering iron, since you'll have more control over it than a cigarette. Though that is how the original burns got there. Wink. Good luck with the project, post pictures when you get that far along. I'd love to see how it turns out!
