I'm going to buy a case from this guy tomorrow morning. He's a luthier who has moved to Hawaii and is back clearing out his stock here in LA. Seems like an OK guy. I don't know if he'll split up the stuff. If interested, I can try and look for whatever you are after. losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/msg/1645642257.html

Wow! Hey what is this stuff going for price-wise? I might be interested in a neck from him but I can't exactly pay a fortune plus the shipping here to Iowa from Cali might be pricey as well!

We didn't talk a great deal about his stash, but he indicated that he's clearing it out. The ad makes it look like he would like to sell it as a lot to another luthier. There's a good chance that won't happen, though, because it's a big one time expense that the luther would have to carry for a while until he could make the parts into guitars and sell them.
So, you could write him. Or, if you are looking for something special I can look when I go tomorrow and give a report.
Unfortunately, I can't find the charger for my camera, so will not be able to give a visual.

Yeah, it is very doubtful to me that he will sell it to a single luthier. Even ones that have established businesses will have trouble being able to foot a bill like that!
I would really like a neck that is probably a 3+3. Like a LP style. I mean even if it's not finished, as long as like its just rough cut, I can do final sanding and install a nut and what not.
Unless he would sell you some body wood for super cheap, I plan on just cutting a body from poplar or ask for cheap,
Thanks Chezvoz!

I'm going to see if there is a nice piece or a nice laminate for a body, that's about all I could hope to do any time soon. I have 2 bodies to refinish that have been sitting for 6 months or more!
What do you think a good price range is for your neck or a body?
Or put it this way: what's the I can't pass this up price and what is a fair price?

Well I know this will probably sound cheap and like I don't want to commit to anything just yet! I'm not sure what my neck project will be so, if you could, just take a look around and see what they have and then report back prices.
I mean, I totally want the neck and body but I don't know when I will get a chance to really start on it and I still need to make some more money to start a new project.
I would love to get a simple 3+3 neck for $50! Although I think that is a doubtful number, if I could get it for $75 that would be fair, but that's just me in my position right now.

I am the this guy who lives in Hawaii! LOL I am really only interested in selling the entire lot in a VERY short time, as I return to Hawaii in less than ten days Craigs were posted before I shot enough to give a good sense of the variety. Inventory of most of the wood is at www.thatother.com/4sale/wood.pdf A zip file of 26 jogs is at thatother.com/4sale/wood.zip

If you made just one or two high-end guitars, which is really the only type this wood should be used for, you would easily cover the entire cost. This wood is not just rare because it is highly figured. It has cured for twenty years. I am willing to low-ball far below it's value. I wish I was on a position to piece it out, but that isn't managable. I could recover more money if I did.

Haha oh well this is kind of ironic pineapple!
I just don't have that kind of money and my skills are nowhere near being able to really sell my guitars off for a profit just yet. I would love to build a beautiful high-end guitar for myself out of some of that wood.
I totally understand your position though and where you stand right now.
I really hope you keep posting on the forum and sharing your knowledge. i know I would greatly appreciate it!

This is a great forum for builders of all skill levels! You guys have a great online community here. I wish I had known about this years ago. Thanks to Chez for letting me know about it. I will certainly share whatever I learned. Production method got to be one of my trips. There are many ways to skin a cat, but some are much more precise than others.

I was just about to give a report, but it looks like he's already introduced himself to the group. I have to say, looking at all that beautiful wood gives a person the building itch, even if those kind of high end builds are way beyond me right now.

I sold the lot five minutes ago! I did keep a 15/4 x 8 x 42 billet of curly koa, if anyone in the Los Angeles area is interested. One of the few pieces one could re-saw into a few full guitar sets (back and sides) It's among the wood.zip jpegs
