Today I recieved a free silvertone guitar body, the neck is useless but the body is looking good. I need to know, is it possable to put an Ibanez neck on it? it looks like it will fit. If it works, will it perform better than the original neck? I think Ibanez makes a better guitar, but I just want to know before I spend 50$ on ebay for a neck that I don't know will fit.
I just want to know, are guitar necks universal?
Thank you,
Jeff V

Jeff -- Thanks for the question.
The key factors are: scale length and neck pocket dimensions.
The scale length refers to the distance between the nut and the 12th fret, doubled. If this distance is incorrect, your guitar will not play properly. Put the neck on the guitar -- measure from the nut to the 12th fret. Take that distance and measure from the 12th fret to the bridge (center point on saddle adjustment). If it is close you can adjust it out...if not, prepare for major surgery.
The neck pocket can vary greatly, especially in import guitars. HOwever, if it is going to be a budget project, you might enjoy fitting the pocket for the neck.
Try it at your own risk! Good luck, john
