Hi all,
I'm busy setting up a band with some friends our first practice will be probably in 1 or 2 weeks, we havent found a drummer yet but my guitar teacher will drum as long as we have no drummer(sounds wierd isn't it?) But my question is who plays in a band? and in how many bands? I'm just curious because lots of musicians here don't play in bands....

Me and my wife have a band together. Been Doing this for a decade. www.myspace.com/vibrolasWe've got some youtube stuff thats cool to watch. This is the band I was in a few years ago till they broke up. No, I didn't cause it! LOL. We've recently recorded some new stuff that'll be coming out on several vinyl 7". Did a couple reunion shows last spring. We're old now! But the shows have been great. Still heavy. I've been lucky to still be in bands. It's hard maintianing one with all the different personalities of the band. Somebody wants to make it big, the other member doesn't want to leave the state, someone else is MIA 1/2 the time! I've been lucky to be with people who just simply want to play shows and maybe do a little traveling occasionally. The Hookers were a little more serious back in the day. I lost alot of jobs, apartments ,and sold some plasma to keep living in a van with 5 dudes for months, it was fun!

I've been in all kinds of bands too. Done lots of studio stuff as well even been on TV and radio. But these days I don't do anything but build guitars, look for work, and becoming a grumpy old man. My wife thinks it's because I need to be in a band again. I think it's called old age... HE! HE!

Rover, not THE Irish Rovers? The Unicorn song and all. How old are you dude. Niels, I've been in several bands in the past and in three at the same time. All three had common members, but not all three had all the same guys. It's always been a hassle getting everyone to rehearsals. It seems like it's always the guys that can't remember their cues or the breaks that don't think they need to rehearse. But they always want to do the gigs. But go for it and play hard and be the best you can be at it. If nothing else it's great for leaning how to work and or play with people and deal with all the different personality's you will run into for your whole life. Recently, about three gigs ago the bass player and myself from the last band decided to go it acoustic, well I'm acoustic and he's just doesn't need to turn his bass up so loud. It's been the most fun we've had playing music in a long time. But hey we're old guys and we've been rock for years and it's cool to be doing something different. My sons band in San diego, Wasting June. He's the electric guitarist bgvs www.myspace.com/wastingjuned

The good ol' band days. Sleeping on a HOT Georgia night in a ratty Econoline van. No shower for three days. Waking up with your face in your drummers armpit, your bass player snuggling you, and you PRAYING that's a stray mic in your back. No food, no money cause you had to make equipment repairs. Ah yeah the good old days! Been there did that, the jamming was a blast, but now that I'm older? Nope, not again.

We would even change clothing in the car on the way to the next gig. We had guys and gals in our band at that time. You learn not to be modest. We would sometimes play 5 gigs in a day. We did a lot of grand openings. We would play 2 or 3 songs pack up and go to the next one. I was 15 at the time I played with that band for 3 years. But I did make some money. But we also had an agent.

dane, irish rovers was a irish punk band i had all thru high school and college. about 10 years actualy. biggest name ive had anything to do with was carbon leaf. i played a pretty big bar gig 2 years ago with them in morgantown and the recording wound up on frostwire and itunes. the song was a cover of "country roads" i played my 1967 ovation tornado es355 style hollowbody.

Rover I looked it up on you tube. I like your take on the song with the punk beat at the chorus and the segue into brick in the wall. Wish I could hear your guitar better. I'll have to listen on I-tunes. d

I found Carbon Leaf on i tunes but not Country roads. Why are guitar players always so self depreciating? We should be more like drummers, full of ourselves. d
