All -- I had the opportunity to play music with some friends last Saturday night. My friend Keith had just bought a new Dr. Z's MAZ-18 Amp with a Z Best cabinet which he graciously let me play through...what a pal! It had red vinyl...Brad Paisley-style. Here is a link: www.drzamps.com/maz18nr.htmlBottom Line: Unbelieveable. That is one of the best sounding, loudest amps I've ever heard. We were playing country and classic rock -- standards -- and it was just killer. Check one out if you get the chance. The acid test for an amp is playing with a band. Most amps sound pretty good in the store. It is when you open them up and try to compete with the rest of the fellas that you find what they are really made of. This one met the challenge and sounded really balanced and smooth. I was afraid to ask what he paid for it. Has anyone else played through one of these amps? John

John, $1399 for the 18 Jr. Head. I'd like to hear one. With 18 watts, that just doesn't seem right since it is running 4 EL84's. They must be underating it. With those tubes pushing 18 watts that must be some really clear sound, even wide open ;D. John and the crew

Me again, the spec sheet shows 4 EL84's but the tube sheet shows 2 EL84's which is still a great sound at that wattage. John and the crew

John and the crew John -- you are correct, and this amp is proof positive that specs are for wide comparisons only. It is a great sounding, very loud amp. I think the cabinet has a lot to do with it...or maybe it is the red vinyl...or the rubber feet. John

Speaking of 18 watt heads... I am seriously thinking about purchasing a Ceriatone 18 watt clone head! I've been doing some research on the Youtube.com and there are some really cool tones from those. I think it'd be a nice rig paired with a 2 x 12 Marshall cabinet... it really screams but back off the guitar volume and she cleans up nice. Takes pedals well too I've been told and seen. I haven't read anything but great reviews about Nik and his company Ceriatone. And the prices are AWESOME compared to a lot of clone builders.
