I've had a number of interactions with George Gruhn over the years. He is the guy who really started the vintage guitar business. This is a great article from a few years ago concerning the state of the vintage guitar market. acousticguitar.com/makers-shakers-george-gruhn-on-the-state-of-the-vintage-guitar-market/I like his point that guitars will last hundreds of years. I had a talk with him once and he said that Fender (and others) are competing with themselves because a 1994 Strat is just as good as a recent Strat...and there are a lot of Strats out there. John

Great article John! I reflect on my trip to Nashville often. Both Carter's and Gruhn's shops were quite amazing and really very overwhelming to try yo take in. in a few hours.

That was a good visit...I think you bought my lunch at the BBQ joint!
You were in luck that day - Tom Murphy was in the shop.

And I did meet Tom Murphy and we probably talked for an hour. He loves to share. He was trying to perfect finish crazing at the time and trying a new type of lacquer. Very interesting guy. I enjoyed getting to know you over lunch and it was my pleasure. Great BBQ.

If any of you wind up in Nashville, check out "Peg Leg Porker" for lunch after your trip to Carter Vintage Guitars. peglegporker.com/Note: Carter Vintage is moving into their new location now. It is across the street from their old location on 8th Avenue South in Nashville. It should be open March 1st. John
