I have 4 strats (including a partscaster) each one has its unique charms but none compare to my 73. I am always looking for a new strat to replicate the sound and feel of the 73. Budget constraints take the american silver sky from contention! I have for some time trying to get my hands on the SE (import) version. Online reviews have been wildly inconsistent. This week I found a local store that had 3 (UGLY colors!). Anyway, the fit and finish was way better than the similarly priced Fenders. The tone was a bit darker than I like but still nice. At $850 (MSRP) I am on the fence. I may have an opportunity to score a B stock but I'm waiting for pricing.

For me, it's a PRS I played on many years ago before PRS went into mass production. Guess That will never happen for me. Hope you find it! EB

My guess is that if Paul Reed Smith allows any association with his name then it'll be well worth tracking one down that speaks to you.
I have a '73 too which I always regarded with scepticism. Indeed I "ruined" it by having the sunny refinned in red by Roka's in Covent Garden (which turned out on collection to be more of a red plastic skin.) In addition I had the maple neck machined down and an ebony board fitted. In recent years I have come to appreciate that despite all the professionally embodied hacks it is actually still a very good guitar, and as a Young Türk I was guilty of judging it by the received standards of the CBS era hating folks instead of using my ears and fingers, not to mention my brain!

I don't own any real Strats, of course meaning made by Fender. I had a Yami Strat for a couple of years but it never really did it for me. Never really cared much about Strats until a few years back I started getting them in for set ups. They started to grow on me so I built one for me. The Paisley and then also had a client build on the Zak-o-Caster. Anyway the best feeling and playing Strat, that I didn't build of corse, LOL, was a Music Man straty thing. No idea what those things go for but you might want to check them out stratpurist.

I have owned a lot of Fender Strat's over the years. All of them I have sold off or traded off. I had one I called "Blackie" that I loved. But I wound up giving to a guy that had all of his music gear stolen. At the time, I had a few guitars, and he really liked that Strat. So I gave it to him at Christmas. I have missed that Strat ever since. LOL!
So since then I have tried to find me another one. But like it goes, I have gone through so many now and never have found one that speaks to me, until I made one. You may have seen it on here. It is an all yellow one with a hard tail. I love this Strat. I put some Squire classic vibe pickups in it. They sound really great! I might put in something else at some point, but for me these days it sounds good just the way I made it. It is an all parts guitar. I put in locking tuners with a reworked Start neck. I recurved the neck to the way I like them to feel for me.
I did find out the guy I gave the black Start to passed away. I tried to find out what happened to the guitar, but never could find it.
