As some of you know, I have 11 grandkids. About half of them have guitars and other stringed instrument I had made for them.
I have this one granddaughter that loves to tinker. I had given her the guitar that I called the "patina guitar" Well she just had to get a screwdriver out and mess with the screws to the pickups, bridge and so on.
She was also having problems with the guitar staying in tune. So when my daughter, husband, and 4 of the grandkids came out the other day. (they live 2 1/2hr away) they brought me the guitar.
So it did need a new set of tuners. It needed them when I put that guitar together. But I had forgotten that by the time a gave her the guitar. So I put on a set that I had bought for one of my builds and decided not to use them. So, I put them on her guitar.
I fixed all the loose screws and had to put a new screw in the bridge saddle. One came out and was lost. I put the new screw in, and when I went to tune it up, the intonation was spot on. Good guess on my part! LOL!
Strung it up with some 10's. This is the first guitar I have strung up with 10's for a long time. I have been using 11's. For me, there is a big difference between the two.
So, I got the guitar up and playing superb! Oh I used a little CA glue on the bridge saddle screws in hopes they don't come loose again. Wink, wink!
So, the moral of this story... If you build or make a guitar, and you want to test to see how it will hold up, give it to a teenager! LOL!!! That's a good proving ground! EB

Ah the Patina guitar! Good memories of that one. Nice one Eddie. Actually it's worth it just as much to hear you sounding positive again. The season of goodwill can't help rubbing off on everyone!

Ah, the granddaughter is a tinkerer. She might be the one to pick up where you leave off Eddie. Be sure to give her your subscription to the GA forum.

She always has been that way. She has been tinkering around with things before she could even walk. It will be interesting to see what she will do in her life. She is in high school right now. She likes to know how things work. Not afraid to try things. Out of all the grandkids, she is the second one that loves to do things with her hands. It was so nice to show her how to string up one of her acoustic guitars. She caught on right away. She learned faster than most adults I have shown. LOL! Yes, I am a proud PA, PA.

Yes it's great to see an enquiring mind. So many folks never question anything in their lives- they just accept what they see, hear, read and are told. Myself I started young too; I dismantled an exhaust manifold vacuum gauge of my father's that I came across in his garage, snd not having any idea how to reassemble it, I shoved all the bits back in the box and returned it to its dusty location on the shelf. Some thirty years later and with his disease (cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis) taking its inevitable toll upon him, I was leaving at the end of a visit and he said quietly "Oh and by the way- I found my vacuum gauge ..." Ha!

I think Dad's and Mom's or Mum's Always know what's going on. I tell my two kid stuff all the time about things they thought they got away with. They are always surprised that I knew. One of them even asked me, on a few occasions, has asked me how I knew. I say, It for me to know, and for you to find out! LOL! I can't tell ya how many times my Dad used to say that to me.
