I had occasion to cobble a template for a one off route. I'll show some pics and explain a little. Hoping others here may have similar experiences they could share. An acquaintance of mine (actually we've worked together, he's a tile setter. And I've done setup work on a couple of his acoustics.) Dropped off a pile of new and used pick guards on my porch one day a few years back. Some new stuff in the pile but mostly used or modified Strat guards. Needing to route a SC opening in my grandsons Roadie Custom pick guard the light bulb popped on and I thought why not. So three Strat pick guards stacked up for sufficient router bearing purchase and away we go. OK, slight update Looking at these pics I was actually routing the template for the PG. Now that whole SC 24" scale PG is repeatable.

Good idea Dane. Our hand routers had to have an extra 0.125" allowed for in the template because of the shoulder around the cutter, but for a fixed head or pin router this is just great and axiomatic of a true engineer.
Reminds me that I was supposed to dig out that dime store plunge router that I own and have never used. It's in the shed somewhere but you cannot find a patch of floor to place your foot / feet in there, and anyway- I never bought any router bits to use with it!

To get a clean cut one really needs to have the cutter onto the pattern a little. I've had this goal all winter/spring that I would purge my shop of all unnecessary clutter. Basically put everything outside except stationary tools. only bring back in what is necessary. With the TKR it looks like late summer if not fall. Don't want any weather with all the stuff outside.
