Wow! Looks like everything as we know it is changing. So sad to see all this coming to an end. By, By Miss American pie. Or the day the music died... So sad.
But who knows maybe there will be a new place that will someday be birthed. With all of the new "Kids" out there that are hooked on our old songs, maybe, just maybe it won't all die... EB

I've just looked at this and Wow- so sad.
For myself, Nashville trumpets "Country". Now I'm aware of the clear blue water distinctions between Country, Country and Western and Country Blues, but for myself Nashvile shouts out "Country and Western" and that rhinestone infested genre alone in the lexicon of musical history just turns me off. Throughout the decades, I had to make an effort to understand that "Country" per-se is not C&W, and furthermore, Country Blues turned out to be something that I loved. Prior to this Damascine conversion, I blanked out anything with "Country" in the description. My loss huh? So armed with that acquired knowledge I have to say that this is a desperately bad outlook.
On this tiny island, we had a notoriously well known prime minister called Margaret Thatcher, and about the only thing that I agreed upon with her was her slavish reliance upon the power of "The Market". She had it nailed. I hope this skirts around "political" but I see The Market exerting its ineluctable influence whether for good or ill- generally the latter. I know you hail from Nashville John (or at least you are based there) so I offer commiserations for this state of affairs. It will take a strong market force indeed to turn things around once the realtors and pension peddlars get their teeth into everything. The one thing those real world realists cannot take away from us is the staggering legacy- we have that much.

Steve - Not to venture into the political, but I've written about this on my main site in the Opinion Section. "The Market" is in control here but there may be another problem; in our case, I think it may be a case of local government helping to pick winners and losers. This picked up steam during the lockdowns when some businesses were "allowed" to stay open while other were forcibly closed.
Zoning, approvals, and politics tend to follow a predictable arc. For example, nothing says "country" like an Apple Store on Broadway across the former 5th Avenue from the Ryman Auditorium, the home of the Grand Ole Opry while doing apparently nothing to prevent the closing of the iconic Ernest Tubb Record Shop on the opposite corner. And, while we are at it, let's kick in another $500 million for a new stadium for the NFL Titans.
The music business went through a major shift in the last 20 years, and we are starting to see it in the movie and TV industries. That is, what is compelling enough to coax people into buying something, particularly that which is available for free?
More to follow, John
