Here is a post I just did on FB.
This is my 1971 Gibson LP custom. I bought it brand new in 1971. I still have the sales recipe for it.
That leather strap you see in the case is the original Gibson Strap that came with the guitar.
I got it out of the case today to play it. I have to say out of the countless guitars I have owned this is still and always will be my top favorite guitar that I have ever owned or played. This guitar almost plays itself.
Of late I had been talking of selling it. For one we could use the money.
But when I play the guitar all of the memory's of everywhere we have been come flooding into me.
This guitar and I have played all over the place. Been in night clubs, concerts, been on TV and radio, in churches, tent revivals, ans so much more. I own nothing that has that kind of impact with me. I just can not bring myself to sell it.
Yes this is the fret-less wonder. The only thing that has been changed was the jack plate. I still have the one that came on the guitar. It was changed because the plastic one cracked and was replaced with a metal one. That is the only thing that has been replaced on it, other than the strings.
So, Nope can't sell it. There is not enough money to buy it. I have been offered a lot for it over the years. But never could sell the guitar.
I don't care how many out there don't like the fret-less wonder. To me this is the guitar of all guitars. I open the case and it still has that same smell in it of when I first bought it. After all these years that smell has never left.
I also know for many, that guitars are only tools of the trade. But this one is more than that to me.
Even my kids grew up seeing me play this guitar. Our son once told me he was going to put my ashes in with the guitar and then bury the guitar with my ashes in it. I had a friend say "can you tell me where he's going to bury ya?" LOL!
I know it may seem to some that it's only a guitar. But this thing has become a part of who I am. I cannot help that.
I wonder how many out there have an item that you have hung on to because of what it means to you?
