Ok... Not going to get into all the hype of this guitar. But I have a question about the pickups. Maybe John can say something on them.
I seen a video of one of these guitar where they do a tear down of it. In that video they show a single coil (PRS Pickup) that has pole magnets with small pole magnets in-between the larger ones. What the heck is that for? They really didn't go into the what or why. Do they help with the sound of that guitar?
I also seen were the USA Silver sky has less resistance (out put) than the SE. Wonder why they did that?
Then the radius on the SE is a little bit much for me. I think it's at like something 71/2" radius? Wow! That is a little curvy for me.
Well, my main question is about the pickups. Can someone please clue me in? Thanks! EB

Don't know anything about the pups. They built this guitar to John Mayer's specs. This could explain why the 7.25 fretboard radius. But for the masses it makes no sense. Most players that like to bend strings like flatter boards then that. I like 7.25 for chord playing it's very comfortable.

I'll have to check the pickups out...will check in with some of my contacts.
Also remember -- there are lots of manufacturers who camouflage the true nature of their products with extra or non-working parts or accessories.
More to follow, John

Maybe the additional pole pieces are to maintain response during string bends, although as Dane says the tight fretboard radius contradicts that. Anyway, if that was a consideration I suppose a bar magnet would be simpler? I'm just throwing out random ideas here.

I've got to the point where I just avoid this guys videos. I understand. But he is the only one that I seen that took one of these apart. So, that is where I got this from and raised the question in me (why) why are there the extra magnets? There are a lot of videos made by some that I don't watch or not to often. I looked at this one because he was talked about form Texas Toast. So I wanted to see more of what they were talking about.
I looked for other videos about the pickups but could not find any that talked about the extra magnets. If that is what they are. If there are then why? Hum... EBCG

My curiosity is piqued for sure. I'm waiting for John's research.

I watched the video and I do not think those little "in between" magnets are actually magnets. I believe they are steel slugs used to change the inductance of the coils so they can use cheaper magnets in the pickups.
Remember -- the name of the game in the SE is "cheaper". I'm going to GC this weekend and play one.
