All - I finally finished our new 10-song album, "Number Three". The band is “Sanford/Williams”, and the music is instrumental rock. Like the last two EPs, this one has lots of guitars and bass, plus real drums. I invite you to check it out. soundcloud.com/user-367965226-345186173/sets/number-threeThanks for your support, John

Some cool music John! I really like it a lot! You know you keep on playing and you someday will learn how to play! Gust messing with ya! Love the sound of your guitar. What guitar or guitars are you using in this? Are you using an amp or going through a program. Sound great! EB

Eddie -- Thanks for the kind words.
I used a number of Les Pauls and Strats on the album. My workhorses were a 2016 Les Paul Historic R9 with OX-4 pickups and a alder/maple neck Strat with a set of my pickups.
Primary amps were a '73 50-watt Marshall with a '72 Marshall cab with greenbacks and my Traynor YGM-3 combo for clean stuff. The bass was all P-Bass with an Ampeg B-15 amp.
Effects ranged from Tube Screamers to Phase 90s along with my trusty EP-3 Echoplex. The drums are old-school Ludwig Vistalites.
Strings were all Ernie Ball

Cool stuff John. The guitars and you sound great! I always wanted one of them echo pedals. Sorry my short term memory is getting real bad. But anyways. Good sounding stuff. I really enjoyed listing to ya! I can hear a littler EVH in there With your flavoring.
To bad there aren't more people doing music like what you are doing. All instruments and no singing. Sometimes one just needs to here the instruments. I listen to a lot of blues guitar instrumentals. So, refreshing.
Thanks Again for sharing this. I wish I could get interested again in doing music recordings. But, I think that time has passed me. But not only that all I have is my phone to make any Kind of a recording. I sold off all of my recording gear a few years back. Even gave my grand daughter some stuff for her movie making that she does. LOL!
Well, anyways... Keep up your passion John! And keep on having fun with music!

I spoke with John elsewhere but I will say here where so many of us know him through this forum. It's quite surprising if you have had any meetings with or talked on the phone with John. That this quiet, very polite and unassuming gentleman plays such absolutely face meeting rock and roll! And wonderful blues and a lot of genres really, really well.

Thanks for the kind words, Dane. Dane visited me in the shop and we had a great day. He is a great guy, too, and builds some great guitars.
Eddie -- The new album will be up on Spotify and other platforms soon. If you need an old-school solution, DM me your mailing address and I'll send you a CD.
Thanks for the support!

I was listening to this last night because first, I remembered and secondly, I had the PC switched on for once. The sounds piped through the 100 watts per channel stereo are a whole other enchilada compared with my "smart" 'phone (as good as they are nowadays.) This is a great, great album John. Respect due. "I Walked Into a Bar" is so redolent of both the feeling and the atmosphere. You definitely nailed that one, and those drums sound awesome.
I also listened through The First EP which I hadn't heard because I first became aware of Sandford Williams when you posted The Second EP, and although there is a detectable line of evolution, there's little to choose between because that's so good too.
Absolutely brilliant- it totally eclipses me into the shade. There's a massive leap from playing well to producing recordings of this calibre. I wish I knew how you get that "scooped" tone, but hey that toan's yours, and I'm happy just wondering!

A thumbs-up from you means a great deal to me. I think the scooped tone is an evolution of sorts; sort of 80s hair metal "no midrange at all" coupled with a old time Marshall + PAF sound. I will do some more posting on it. Thanks again, and thanks for listening. John

I'm sorry that it took me so long but I just put off listening to it until I had some spare time when the PC was on. We'd just finished a two night binge watching of the final series of "Killing Eve" and *'er indoors* shuffled up the "wooden hill". Me- I had other ideas! once again- a great album. I think I read in this thread or perhaps the one on The Second EP that you played all the bass too. As any sentient being should recognise, bass is so much more than thumping along on the root notes, the timing and choice of harmony notes is fundamental. Really impressive.

I've been listening as well. My son gave me a very nice bluetooth speaker a while back. Sounds really great when I turn it up! I'm referring to your music John not the speaker but it sounds great as well. You are a very gifted player and writer and I'm enjoying your music quite a lot.

We used a four-mic Glyn Johns setup on the drums, and I try keep them as natural as possible. I don't want them to sound like a drum plug-in. I have really tried to focus on my bass playing. It is harder than it looks, and trying to lock in with the acoustic drums can be very time consuming. Thanks again for the kind words. John

For me it's kind of obvious when a guitar player "doubles on bass". I know it's only ever going to be subjective, but if you've seen the recent Peter Jackson "Get Back" movies, you really miss Paul's bass when he's on the joanna and John's filling in at the low registers on that 6-string bass. As I listen to these recordings, I hear a bass player and not a guitar player taking a turn. I have owned a Gretsch bass since about 1980 (I think there's a really old thread where we posted piccies of our herds and it's on there) but my bass "playing" is pedestrian at best and about on a par with my banjo capabilities, and believe me I really love my banjo! OTOH, you're hittin' the note John.
