So, i have wanted an Ibanez S series for at least the last 10 years. Since i have spent several years doing easy mods and a cpl refinishes, i figured a fixer-upper was right up my alley. So i recently bought bought what was listed as a "Ibanez S series Saber Guitar body loaded". Floyd posts need a little attention, Infinity pickups in good shape, not much else to it except finding a neck. So, i bought 25.5" scale ibanez "style" neck to start. This may be a very silly question but im hoping it will spark some enlightening conversation on scale lengths from which i can gain some much needed knkwledge. When i dry fit the neck, im getting around 26.5". I checked all of the fret spacings, and they are very precise to 25.5" scale measurements. Does this mean i have a 26.5" scale length body.? Ibanez definitely made some. But i thought that was primarily a 7 string scale.? And my unit came with a 6 string bridge. Anyway, sorry about the super long post, im just very confused now. I will make one if i have to, im just very unsure of what i am needing in order to land on an intonatable scale length.. TIA for any help provided.

Can you get hold of the person you bought the body from? Maybe they could tell you the scale of the body.
How are you measuring the neck for the scale? When I first started out I too had a hard time figuring out the scale of a body. I had bought a few body's that had the 24 3/4" scale like a Gibson LP. On one of them I would up plugging the holes and relocating the bridge for the 25 1/2" scale. But it's hard to figure out the scale of a body without the neck.
So, when you put the neck onto the body, are you measuring form the inside (were the nut meets the fret board) of the nut to the bridge, or are you measuring form the `12th fret to the bridge? Another way to find out the scale is to look it up on line. Go to Ibanez web site and see what the scale of that guitar should be. Does the neck you bought fit the neck pocket?
Are you sure the neck you bought is a 25 1/2" scale? Did you measure from the inside of the nut to the 12th fret then double that measurement? This will tell you the true scale of any neck. I'll look up the S series to see what I can find. But maybe John can help you out. He knows some things about Ibanez guitars. EB

after looking it up, the body should be a 25 1/2" scale. All of the ones I looked (new) has that scale. Is yours a floating bridge or a hard tale? I can't remember what you said.
So, if the scale is off, then that means that maybe the bridge if not in the right place or the neck you got is not right. Can you post some pictures of the body and neck? Maybe the body was not an S series.
Hum...

All of these guitars are at 648mm/25.5" I looked at a lot of them and can't find one with another scale.
Was trying to figure it out. So, looks like you do have the right scale is the body is an SERIES.
Those are some cool looking guitars! EB

Searching the Ibanez website I didn't find Saber listed. But also looking at the Prestige S series that Eddie linked it looks like they are all 24 fret necks. Is it possible that your guitar had a 22 fret neck? An extra two frets could push the scale out a bit. Just spit balling here. I'm not into Ibanez, have only set up a hand full of them.

That's a good call, Dane. I was thinking the same thing. If you don't get the scale right now it will never, ever play in tune. John

But if he put a 24 fret onto a 21 fret body. would not hit the neck pickup? That is if they have an over hang. Just wondering?

as far as I can tell all of the S series are 24 fret. They do have their versions of the Fender guitars that have 22 fret guitars. I didn't look at the rest to see what they are. But I think I would go to the web site and look at all the guitars they make. There are a lot!
I wonder it there are any markings on the body that could help. To me it looks like we need to see some pictures of the body. Other wise we will keep on guessing.

Got it. Had to be on desktop computer. Heres what I got.. I imagine it is also worth noting that this a cheaper, most likely Chinese, aftermarket neck. However I have bought a few in the past that I do really like. I would have to agree with Diane on this. It looks to be a 22 fret neck for that body. EB

EB After looking at the pictures I think the neck is the wrong scale. Looking at the measurements of the ruler , it doesn’t add up . I could be wrong. But that is what it looks like to me. EN

That neck is definitely a 25.5 scale. So yeah back to my original thought. Looks like that body needs a 21 or 22 fret neck. Most Fender necks are 21 fret. So 21 fret + 25.5 scale. Just looked at the pics again. 21 fret neck will be very close.

Ok. So i got it figuredout fellas. Just wanted to give the credit to the guys with the proper advice..i had the correct scale, but the wrong number of frets. This is a big part of what confused me when i arrived here. I thought "25.5" scale" was all that mattered. But the body has to be set up for the correct scale length AND that certain fret amount...bc the remainder of the scale lentgh is the length of the BODY from the neck pocket to the bridge... This is precisely why i came to this forum, and i highly appreciate the education, my friends. I hacked a cpl frets off that neck, sanded er down to look as "factory" as i could..problem solved. Now to get this initial Floyd Rose setup handled without ripping my hair out...and the coil splitting id like to do..it never ends..
