I bought a flip bench a long time ago from an estate sale, basically a friend of mine. Has a 12" planer and a scroll saw on it plus the the flip table itself.
The plans look good, should go ok for you.

I bought a flip bench a long time ago from an estate sale, basically a friend of mine. Has a 12" planer and a scroll saw on it plus the the flip table itself. The plans look good, should go ok for you. I was going to make my own plans. But I figured for 5 bucks. I can use his cut sheet and save myself the agony of figuring it out myself. LOL!
So far so good on it. I ordered the latches and the wheels off of Amazon today. Should be here soon. Can you believe it. Non of the hardware stores around me have the latches used in the making of this? They use to be all over the place. But no... I had to order them. So to get free shipping I had to order over $25.00 of stuff. So I went ahead and got the wheels for it. Got them cheaper than I could here.
OK, Back to work! EB

Well my flip top has turned into a Saga. But I am going to overcome it. With me and my dyslexia, it's a wonder I can do anything. Eddie and number "of any kind" Do not mix. I can measure something 10 to 15 times and still get it wrong. Glad I got extra plywood. The wood I have is 1/2". So I put tow halves together and that makes it 1" thick. The plans call for 3/4" plywood. So I have to make adjustment to the plans as I go along. So now we have some math involved. My wife tries to help me out with the math but she cannot see a finished product. So, I spend a lot of time with her in showing her what I need to do. She is really good with math. But not in seeing what I see. So it takes a lot of time to explain things to her as I go along. I wish I could have a mind that could use numbers like so many of you can.
So, I messed up with one of the sides and had to remake it. So, as I wait on the that wood to dry form gluing up to two halves I am wanting to do other things. But I need to go to the hardware store to get a 2X4 board. Wonder how much GOLD they want for it? Hum... I also need some more screws "1 1/2" " long ones. I was going to put in drawer slides, but I think I'll make the drawer to slide on the wood. I don't think I'll use that drawer all that much. (I hope) But it would be easier for me. Not because of dyslexia but because of other physical stuff. Yep! I sometimes wonder why I do what I do. So frustrating.
So this simple project has turned into a PROJECT for me. The other thing that is making the so hard to make is lack of space. This will be the last cabinet I try and make in this little shop. It takes to much space to try and do a simple job.
Well, the last two days on this have not been fun. To many thing to enplane right now. Well, need to go. My nurse is supposed to show up anytime now. Yes I have a nurse that comes in and checks up on my wife and I. Insurance, assigned them to us after having COVID. EB

There are days better than others. But it sure is frustrating when my mind can't do something simple or I get to hurting so bad that I have to quit and go rest. I miss the days I could work all day and night with little sleep. I use to be able to work like that. Did that for many years. Then after the last time I injured my neck on the job, I have been going down hill.
Now even my hands don't want to work right. I am loosing the sensitivity in them. Makes it hard to pick small things up. Half of time I can't even pick small things up. So, I end up sliding it off into my hands.
Sorry I don't mean to go on. But like I said, it is frustrating. EB

OK, It's been a real frustrating build. Anything that could went wrong did on this. But I think I am on my way to victory.
here it is as of now. Almost done. I need to cut some plywood for the exposed side of the flip top. and I still need to make the drawer. I have the slides for it. I need to put them in after the drawer is done.
One of the changes I did to this was I installed a 2 plug in. Like the ones in your house with a box and cover. It fits good and was a lot cheaper than buying a surge protector with a lot of plug in's that won't be used. Plus I used an extension cord that has enough on it so I can plug it in without have to find and extension cord.
Yesterday, a lot of thing went bad. For one my shop vac quit working, wait that's not all... I had a tool fall and fell on my foot. I cut my arm and was bleeding all over before I knew I was cut. I also cut another piece of wood wrong. I was about to through it all in the garbage. I am so frustrated with thing not going the way they should. This flip top has taken me longer than I thought it would. Things I have learned on this cart. For one, Do not buy used plywood, The wood I got looks good, but because it was used outside as storm covers on a house the wood is super dried out and does not cut like new wood.
Another thing is, this project has cost me more in not just time but money. Between the cost of the used plywood and screws, pipe, and so on this build is nearing the $200.00 mark. I have decided that from now on, If I ever build another flip top, it will be with new wood and another design. I had one in my head the way I was wanting to build it and I should have stuck to the way I was going to make on. It would not have cost me near what this on it costing me.
Well, anyway here is a picture of my Shop Vac.
What had happened was the switch on the vac quit working. So I took it apart to find out the switch was broken. Hum... Cheap stuff! So I went to Home Depot and got a new switch. The one I put on it is a toggle switch that should out last the vac. LOL! The cool part of upgrading the switch was I use the old switch (not after doing some modifying ) to put the new switch on. I then used hot glue to remount the switch. Works like it should.

So frustrating Eddie but the way I see things you still get the "joy" of creating something that neverwould have existed but for your blood, sweat and tears (literally in this case!)
I have a similar task ahead of me with the power switch on a Peltier camping cooler box. Best Beloved uses it 24/7 to augment the tiny 'fridge in her kitchen. Wish me luck!

OK, I am almost done wit the flip cart. I still need to make the drawer for it. That is all that is left to do. I might paint it, I haven't decided yet. But it flips and it all works like it should. I might change out the latches I used to lock the top into place. I'll see hot that goes over time. But here it is as of today.
The only problem I ran into to day was my joiner/planer lined up with the support in the flip top. So I wound up drilling over sized holes for the bolts to go into once the planer was attached to the top. I got excited when it fit like I had planed. LOL!
It flip over real good. A little bit of dragging but not to bad. The wheels I put on it are 4" locking ones. Got them off of Amazon. They work super good! All 4 can be locked. Giving the cart a real sturdy feel to it.
After all the stuff that went on during this build, I am so glad to get to this point. So, One more day I figure to make the drawer and it will be done. Once done I am going to take a break form wood working of any types. I have 2 acoustics I need to get on for a customer of mine. So I need to get them up and going. One is a 12string acoustic, the other is a 4 string Bass acoustic. He wants lower action and a new set of strings on both. I need to make a saddle for the 12 string.
I am going to change my whole shop around once them two guitars get done. I ordered a new cab for my drill press. Yes new! I don't feel like making another wooden one at this time. All of my tools will have a cab on wheels. So that I can use them and put them back away. Seems like that is what I end up doing now. When I use my tool that are the table, I am always moving them to make it easier to do things. The table is going to be cut in half, so that I can have in the middle of the shop for work space. So, tired of not have a work table to work from. I so wish we could move into house so I can use the garage or have a work shed like I used to have, only BIGGER!

That looks pretty solid Eddie. You get years of good use from that flip table.

That looks pretty solid Eddie. You get years of good use from that flip table. it should last a long while. I used 1/2" plywood and glued them together to make it one inch thick. (sides and bottom) The rest is done with the 1/2" ply. The inside wood on the top is 2X4s cut down to 3".
Once the wheels are locked, it's not going anywhere. The thing is heavy, but them wheels let it move super easy. There is no wobble in it at all.
I can't wait until I can get all of the power tools on their own work stations. I think it will be a good thing.

This is the table I had everything on. I have a new tool station coming in that the drill press is going to sit on. Getting the sander and the planer off the table freed up a lot of space. But, once I get everything on it's own station, I can move everything back up against the wall, and then cutting that big table in half, will give me that work table I so need.
It will happen soon as I can get them two guitars I need to work on done. That should not take to long. EB

Not doing a lot the last 2 days. I got a gig playing Santa. Last night was so much fun. I think the adults had more for than the kids.
Here are two pictures. One is me, the other with the wife.
So, I am taking off again today, so, that I will be in good shape for tonight. I hope tonight is as fun as last night. LOL! Or should I say HO! HO! HO!
