I have been too wrapped up with politics for too long! Today, I set it all aside and put new strings on my favorite strat (1 of 5). I bought this off craigslist for $180 thinking I'd use it for parts. Anyway, someone gave me a set of strings - I have been playing D'Addario NYXL for years - so I'm trying something new. I enjoy doing a thorough cleaning, fret polish, tighten screws etc once I get the strings off. Finally, I dig out my old analog tuner to check the intonation. For the next week or so I'll remember to wash my hands before playing. Restringing is my happy place.

I change a lot of strings. You'd be very happy. Just not my own often enough. I also clean and tighten up everything when I do set ups for folks. I tried Cobalt strings when they first came out and I liked them just not much more then what I always used. Which are the EB slinky 10s.

I like re-stringing too. I like round cored strings such as those made by DR and here in The UK Newtone- they feel easier under the finger tips and supposedly tune up to pitch at a lower tension so they're great for older more fragile instruments. That said, I stick with coated D'Addario on my number one acoustic and they're hex cored. Like Dane I don't change them anything like frequently enough. My favourite quote is that I have had the same set of Rotosound round wounds on my Gretsch Committee bass since 1980! I did buy a set of that company's flat wounds about ten years ago, but it doesn't pay to be too hasty :<D

D'Addario Is all I use on my acoustics and electric for the most part. I think I have use every kind of string made. One thing I have always liked about D'Addario is they always have stood behind their product. I had a bad set of their flat wounds once and they replaced them with 3 new sets. I had them in my hands in 2 days. Now I am sold on the string and the company. They have also done the same with other strings over the years.
I use 11's on my electrics. My acoustics get 12s. For a long time I used 10s on my electrics. But I really like the 11s. Back when I was playing a lot and going from electric to acoustic it was easy to make a switch on stage to have the strings closer to gauge.
Back when I was playing a lot too, I use to change my strings once a week to two weeks. Now not so much. Strings are last a lot longer now that I don't play all the time. I still buy my string in bulk because I do have a few guitars. LOL!
When I was changing string on customers guitars I would let them pick the kind of strings they wanted. But I would offer them a discount if the would pick the strings I had on hand.
Yes the old political hole of life these days... Sure can take up a lot of time and energy... I too had to stop looking at all of it. What a year is all I can say...
Glad you found your Happy Place! Good to see you posting. Looks like a fun guitar! I seen one of them a while back for sale. Now I wish I would have bought it. LOL!
