Hey all, I seen these two videos and thought they are pretty cool. Have you ever thought of doing anything like this? EB

Well I did look Eddie but for me that kind of thing only gets interesting on a technical (or say how-to) level. A glitter finish on a guitar per-se, for me is a step in the wrong direction. You know that says more about my conservative attitude to guitar innovation than anything else. I'll bet the young turks without my kind of baggage would be far more open to it. It's a sunny, plain lacquer or a trad. paint job for me. Are you tempted to have a go? I'll bet you've done metalflake blowovers on cars during your time?

So it was not unusual to hear guys say... I have 27 coats of lacquer on top!... To day the metal flake is a lot better than back then.
I see a trend right now that more and more people are getting into metal flake. I do like it. I would like to do a guitar with a copper metal flake top. I think it would look really cool! I did have a Fender Strat once in red flake. I now wish I would had held on to it.
But yes you know me I love "Kustom" So for me it not over the top to have the sparkle on stage. LOL! My first electric guitar had a gold flake pickguard on it. I still have that pickguard. It hanging on my wall. The guitar took a turn for the worse years ago. So it is no longer with me.
But, I too understand that this kind of thing is not for everyone. Do you know www.facebook.com/sullyguitars. He does a lot of metal flake guitars. I asked him about one of his guitars. Not to bad a price $1200.00 It was done in the copper flake over black. WOW! That is a hot looking guitar! Kind of like a Tele.
His metal flake guitars are awesome... But again I know they are not for everyone. Like I said I do see a big trend right now on metal flak guitars. If I were still building I would make a few to see how they sell.
I had been thinking of doing that LP project I am working on in flake. But I think I'll keep the burst on it. I might later on get a kit guitar and do a flake paint job on it. I would like to use some candy colors on it with an Eagle over lay on it. But, I'll see what comes up after I get the two projects done. May be a while.

I did watch this and even wrote a long reply where I went Blah, blah, blah. I don't know what happened to it. I do like metal flake, my second guitar build I finished in a gold flake with a red mahogany wash over that. It looks like a new copper penny that blinds you. Anyway this guy in the videos does a great job with great prep. There's another youtube painter from Canada that does a lot of interesting types of paint jobs but his prep is really bad or his grain fill is bad. Anyway I just can't watch him anymore because the finishes are rippled.
I've seen a few of Sully's videos. He's a good builder.
