To bad we don't live closer Eddie then you could over and use the shop. That would be fun. hey now don't tempt me! I just might show up at the door! LOL!
I still have so many builds in my head that I wish I could see come to pass. I should draw them out someday and send them to ya! HA! HA!
That would be cool Dane! Heck it would be fun just to watch you and help ya film your You Tube channel.

It would transform the videos by removing the need for you to keep adjusting the camera. Eddie would know instinctively where to point the lens. There's just a little matter of a couple of thousand miles!

Well, guess what I found out today???
We have been talking about the string through like on Teles. It's a hassle trying to get the inserts in line on the back of the guitar. So, I have been looking for a way to do that. You all know me I like to come up with my own ways of doing things.
Last night, as I laid awake, I started thinking on it. I got to wondering if the part of the bridge off of a Start would work as a template.? You know that part that goes on the bridge where the string go thorough? I can't think of the name of it.
Well, anyway, the one I have matches up exactly to the bridge I have that I am putting on the build I am doing.
So, I am going to cut it in half and try it out. The Start bridge I have is junk so it's not like I cutting up a good one.
I'll post some picture once I figure out how I'm going to cut the bridge.

You'll end up with a drilling block like mine Eddie, and with what will only ever be low usage it doesn't need to have hardened materials. Of course you could heat up a steel block and quench in oil- "Casenit" even- but if that tremolo block is cast Mazak or so called Monkey Metal, it's probably better to leave it be!
I'm wondering whether we are approaching this incorrectly? Once marked out accurately, bore the holes through from the back, then any deflection or wandering can easily be adjusted at the front because the bridge will always hide it. I was halfway to this when I wrote that in future I would drill through from both sides. I still think that way because it would lessen any drill bit deflection, but really if the back is a problem then let it be the datum. Provided it is marked out accurately all should be well.

Your are right Steve. Get the end holes through the body. Thats from the front layed out with the bridge. Drill slowly and clear the chips a lot. Then line up the block with the holes on the back. Split the diff if they don't line up perfectly. Only go about half way through with the all the front holes then drill the backs to meet them. They will find each other in the middle and once that's done use a little bigger bit and ream the whole thing out. One of those step bits would work a treat for the bushings once they all line up nice from the block.

I wish that I'd thought things through like we are doing here instead of simply relying upon the drill press when I did mine. Because we're discussing it, I've been looking at my Tele. For "Blackguard" originality, I used non-flanged ferrules and whilst they are actually perfectly aligned on the back, there's just a very slight variation on the gaps between a couple of them and it's barely noticeable. I must have drifted the holes slightly as I opened up for the ferrules. What really hurts is the chips in the paint finish caused by the allegedly ultra high quality German counterbore (that's right- I didn't just make free with a suitably sized HSS twist drill.) I have considered replacing the ferrules with the later flanged type, but that still wouldn't completely mask the chips so I've decided to take it on the chin.
If I had to do it again I would (as previously mentioned) open out the ferrule holes with a rotary file to just a fuzz larger than the ferrule holes. This would be barely noticeable and would prevent chipping when boring the ferrule holes. I guess we live and learn. I have learned to live with it. I can't tell you how many times I've considered shelling out for a Warmoth body in my preferred Blonde finish, but every time I remind myself that the instrument sounds wonderful, even unamplified so I cannot justify the risk, expense nor effort.
Thanks go out to Dane for the expression "just a fuzz"!

Steve, are welcome to use any and all of my inherited Okie colloquialisms. Having in laws from the South has greatly increased my vocabulary.
I would play the paint right off that tele. Chips happen, if you really hate it fill it with CA then scrape, sand, and polish. I believe you have already touched up the color, Right? I don't mean to make this sound simple but if you are already unhappy with the chips you don't have much to loose. It might look just a fuzz better.

It has "sparkle" in the yellow-gold finish Dane, so anything I do will just make it worse. It is what it is Dane. As usual, we should count our blessings, especially during these times.

You would be amazed at how many colors they have and yes even colors with flake in them. I have touched up a lot of guitar with finger nail polish.
Might be worth looking into.

Even in these times you get some funny looks while you're sorting through the racks while holding a tiny chip of paint!
