I was looking around on You Tube and see a cool video where a guy buys hallow indoor doors and uses them to make acoustic guitars and stand up basses. I thought it was a cool idea.
What do you all think?
What a way to repurposed old doors out of a house. Hum...

Oh, Tim Sway. Yep I've watched a lot of his stuff. Even subbed to his channel. He says hollow core doors are the new pallet wood. I would like his guitars better if he took more care in actual fit and finish but his work is pretty rough. I wish I could just enjoy the process like his millions of subscribers but the result has to be quality for me.

Sounds a bit like a Danelectro ethos, but they are nicely made given the choice of materials.

yeah, I know his stuff is ruff. But I wonder if someone like me or Dane was to build one... Hum... I was thinking if I could get hold of a door or two maybe I could pull off an acoustic. I would have to have someone make the neck for me or at least make it in the ruff. But I bet I could make a fun acoustic guitar out of these doors. All I would use would be the skin of the door for the body. The rest would be made from hard woods.
Dane, I know how you feel, I see a lot of videos that I have to turn off because of the way they are doing a build. It's a wonder how some even get the guitar to even play. LOL!

Rather than making silk purses fron sow's ears, I think I'd go back to cigar box guitars. Of course that's a bit more of a realistic target in my case compared to you guys!

OK how about skinning the doors and make guitars cases out them? The wood is thin enough and could be covered as well.
I did see another guy take upscale house doors (solid) and make instruments from them. Sometimes you can find solid doors super cheap at these places where they recycle stuff. My wife and I made this really nice cabinet from doors we bought for $10.00 US. Heck the hardware on it was worth a lot more than the $10.00.
But I said that to show that woods can be had on the cheap if you are looking out for it.
Here is cool story about finding wood; the wife and I were in Hawaii. We had gone to a swap-meet and I seen the booth where they were selling Koawood acoustic guitars. WOW they were nice acoustics. If I had the money I would have come home with one. I have never ever played an acoustic guitar that played and sounded as good as these guitars! They to me were the best acoustic I had ever played on! WOW!
But anyway, I got to talking to the guy who made them. Super nice guy. He was telling me about the wood he used in the making of these 6 guitars. He told me that one day he was going down the road and decided to stop at a yard sale. There in the yard was this huge coffee table made of Koawood. He wound up getting that table for like $50.00 WOW! He showed me pictures of the wood and showed me pictures of the guitars being made from the wood. At that time he said he still had enough of that wood to make 2 more guitars. WOW! What a find.
I know another guy that scored on some pallets that had been made from maple and cherry. What??? I have seen oak but never maple and cherry before. But anyway he got them for free. Some of the maple had birds eye and flame in them WOW! How can this be??? LOL!
I just like to find uses for woods that we just discard or wind up burning. Right now I have some woods that I would like to make into something. What that something is I have no idea yet but I would have to get my son in law to help me in cutting these days.

Sometimes you can find food chopping boards at unbelievable prices. Most often they're made from lots of offcuts but put together so well that if you were going to paint them it wouldn't matter. At the end of the day, at what stage does a neck made from scantlings start to morph into a laminated build?
Good idea on making guitar cases from doors. You have a very inventive outlook Eddie. I have far too much "junk" here because "it looks too useful to pass on, or too useful to put in the dumpster.

I bought it to make guitars out of. I paid like $10.00 for it at a yard sale. I could get at least 3 Tele body's out of it. The legs are maple as well. I could maybe get 2 necks out of that.
I got it while I was still in AZ. The wife would not let me cut it up for guitars. So now it is sitting in the garage as a work table. I looked at the other day and thought... Hum... Wonder if anyone would miss it... Hum...
So in the future you might see some Teles or even an LP. LOL! Probably not my head says I can my body says yeah right!

He must be making some kind of a profit if he's putting in all those hours in making these guitars. How much does each door cost him and what is he charging for the guitars?

He has two YT channels that he's making his money on although he does sell these guitars. Many people would buy them just support the idea of up-cycling. Which I am not opposed to whatsoever I just think a finished product should look and feel finished.
