Has anyone built a simple Bo Diddley solid rectangle style guitar? I have built several cigarbox guitars including one elect, but I would like to try my hand at a solid elect like Mr Diddley's. Maybe w/ room for an onboard effect or two. Any opinions or ideas?

Never built one but once saw one in a movie with a Kellogg's Corn Flakes box slipped on over it.

I haven't built a box guitar, but I am sure the construction techniques are common to other guitars. I would buy a Saga T-style kit and build a new body out of poplar or pine from Home Depot. All the hardware and the neck would be there for you and you could experiment with the body. Or, if you are really thinking out of the "box", you could try something like this: www.edencompanies.com/bogdon/Good luck, John

I been thinking about it and I think they rout the blanks b4 shaping them, so, maybe all I need is a routed blank? Also, I would like to have some onboard effects, sort of a custom sound where everything is controlled from the guitar, so you could plug into any PA or someone else's equipment while maintaining your own sound

Hi angrytruckingguy, it should be pretty much like building any solid body guitar with the acceptation of having to cut and finesse the curves. Still have a neck pocket and pickup and control cavities to deal with. Also building a neck or sourcing one online. That's prolly why John suggested a kit. Just depends on your skill level and tools. As far as on board trickery goes, There's a thing called the ice cube, I think that's what it's called. That hooks up to a tone pot and rolls up the gain. If I remember correctly it works best with high output pickups. over 10K. A quick google search will yield lots of results for onboard guitar effects. Do a little research and see what you find.
