here is something I learned over the years of buying wood from Home Depot or other hardware stores.
Don't be in a big rush to use the hard woods. I like to buy the wood, then let it sit for at least a month. Some woods are not dry enough to use right away. (for guitar or instrument building)
I like to let the woods sit so they not only dry out but acclimate to your surroundings. Even after I do a glue up, I will let my neck blanks set for months to a year before I use them.
Even after that I will make some cuts and let the wood set for a few more days, to see if it's going to do anything odd. I have had two of my neck blanks go bad over night. That was about 300 to 400 dollars of woods down the drain. ( enough wood to make 4 necks) It happened mostly because I got in a rush, and started using the wood to quickly. So slow down, take your time, it will pay off better in the long run.
