Please keep everyone in Las Vegas in your prayers.

Yes absolutely. This world is completely out of control.

Yep! I have a few friends that live there. I have not heard for one of them. I can only hope they are OK. Eb

My heart goes out to those that have had to endure such a tragedy, but none of us are unaffected really.
Of course from this side of the pond the whole gun issue seems surreal. Writing as one who was denied even so much as a pellet gun as a child, I cannot get my head around your set up over there. Can you imagine my reaction when I saw guns for sale in Walmart's Renton, WA store?
As I understand it, silencers are illegal over there, yet with minimal checks and balances you can buy semi automatic fire arms? Phew! We can't even buy a pellet gun mail order over here!
Regarding the Second Amendment: I thought that the right to bear arms carries the additional "in defence of the constitution" although my memory is hazy and I may have mis quoted? So I can't figure out how so many folks are packing. What are they expecting? An imminent attack from across a border? This is an inopportune moment to explore these points- I understand that much, but you have to see how bewildering it all seems to us from over here.
I'll finish as I started and extend my condolences to the bereaved, together with a heartfelt plea to the NRA to reconsider its rigid standpoint because the price is not worth the prize.

All --
Thanks for the input. We are going to keep this thread non-political. I spoke with John, and he agreed -- everybody has an opinion on this.
However, in response, our Founders stated in our Second Amendment - and I quote -- "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." There have been numerous court cases over the years on this subject. Guns are legal, and we count on the Federal Government to keep them out of the hands of the people who shouldn't have them. It is interesting that you have to have photo ID and a background check to buy a legal gun but you don't to vote in an election. Furthermore, automatic weapons are already illegal in the US unless you have a Class III Firearms license.
We may revisit this later but we think we should let the investigation play out and try to find out what motivated the mad man in Las Vegas to do what he did.

Point taken and respectfully acknowledged. I tried not to make it political but I guess what passes for politics may differ between us too? Also, I was aware of the inappropriate time to get into any discussion let alone that it's unrelated to a music based forum, it's just that it's so shocking to me and I feel for those directly affected. Enough said, I've overstepped the mark already for which I apologise.

Steve - no apology required. We are shocked, too. There is just so much bad stuff out there we wanted to keep this forum free of some of the discussion we get 24/7 in the media.
Thanks for your input and participation. More will follow on this subject.
Respectfully, John
