Eddie, have you tried "Reaper"? I know only too well about trying to get one's old brain around software. I tried ProTools. Yikes! Audacity is great but does have a few limitations. On the other hand, "Reaper" is free to use for individuals (with no pesky adverts) and you can contribute by buying a license if you feel guilty. I did and did! The license is a giveaway price anyway compared to the other well known DAW software offerings. I only mention this because if you are up for learning a DAW, I'd put the effort in with Reaper. And if you buy a license you get a nice birthday email too! (I have no interest in or connection with any software writers or retailers.) I have not heard of that one. I'll look it up. Thanks! EB

I use Protools for my projects. Only downside is a .big learning curve!
I am still partial to Line6 amps. Their small practice amps are great!

I have an earlier version of Protools. Version seven dot something I think. Like all software there was a steep learning curve for me too. Also, Protools was stupidly picky regarding firewire chipsets. I gave up with it and spent the money on guitars instead ;<D. I figured that I would put the learning effort into something more affordable with a better attitude towards milking its customers. I only settled on Reaper because it is extremely capable and ticks the cost box. Audacity is great too but has some limitations even though it means little to me using just one channel!

All I want any more is just an easy way of recording some of the songs I have written. So I can put together a CD for family. Mostly for my grand kids, so they can hear old grandpa and hear the songs I have put together. It may not meant a lot to some, but it does me. I don't what to just fad away and no one knowing what or how music spoke to me. I don't want to get into a full on production. Just something simple. The last two programs I looked (pay ones) is just way too complicated to learn, too many hours of setting up, to do a recording. Plus one of them is way to expensive. I'm not going to spend a lot just to record myself. A long time ago I use to make demos for people. Back in the cassette tape days. Things were so easy back then. Now you have to spend hours up on hours just to learn how to lay down one track. I don't care about punch in's and punch outs, or making a recording on pitch. I'm not wanting to make my music public. I just want to have some fun, without all the work. LOL! EB

Just another opinion to add to this thread. I still use a Tascam Portastudio 424 for demo stuff. I dump it into the computer and use Sony Sound Forge to polish it up and make MP3s or CDRs if desired. Sony sound forge can be bought on ebay for around $40. Pretty simple to use. I've loaded it up on every computer I've had.

Hoz (Chris), I think I enjoyed recording on my PortaStudio much more than with ProTools! You have to make decisions like the old days when you record with a 4-track tape machine. With ProTools you can keep going, and going, and going.....
There are some free multitrack programs out there. Looking forward to seeing what you guys use.
