Hey all... I just picked up a Carvin vintage 16 tube amp. The Reverb tank is missing. I called Carvin and they told me they no longer carry them. So now I am trying to find someone that does. I found a place in Germany, but by the time they ship it here, it's just not cost effective.
So I am hoping someone can help me out with this. Here is the part number that Carvin gave me. 8GB2C1B This is a Accutronics part number.
I have been looking all over the net. So far no one has it. I went to Tube Depot, Amplified parts, Mojotone, and some others. Looked on eBay, and Amazon.
Hoping that someone can tell me were to look next or maybe someone just might have the part. If you can help let me know.
I did see a kit to change it over to digital, but If I'm going to do that, I think I'll look for a reverb pedal. It would be nice to have the reverb tank. EB

Hi EB, remember that I had an issue recently with a Yamaha combo's reverb tank? You may recall it was solved with a trip to eBay. These things are even cheaper over your side of thd pond. Pay particular attention to that part number because there are many variants.
Also keep in mind that Accutronics are no longer made in CONUS and of the far eastern manufacturers remaining, one makes units that are allegedly more "vintage" sounding. If you want me to find out which type I purchased just say the word. It's a dead easy fix so good luck.

This web resource tells more than you'll ever need to know. It's what I used as a reference. I think I bought a MOD tank. On this web page (other hosts exist of the same document) you can download and save the page as a .PDF which is worth keeping a hold of. It's a little like the internet used to be with little mom 'n' pop websites before the big guns muscled in... www.amplifiedparts.com/tech_corner/spring_reverb_tanks_explained_and_comparedI don't think they don't come with the connecting leads? You are supposed to make a note of which lead was connected to which port when you remove the old unit, so that may take some figuring out for you, and if you don't have any phono plug leads, plan on buying a couple of sufficient length. Finally, don't forget the necessary soft or suspension mounting...

I just talked to Carvin again this morning. They told me it will be really hard to find the reverb tank that goes in this amp. One reason is, these tanks were make just for Carvin. This tanks have a 10k input. No one but Carvin uses that kind of high input.
So I looks like I may buy me a reverb pedal. I was wanting to flip the amp, but it does sound pretty good. I may try and see if I can alter the pathway for the reverb so I can use a different tank. They do sell a digital reverb mod for this amp (not Carvin) I may look into that some more.
Just looks like someone out there would have this tank. Like I said I did find it in Germany. But I don't really want to spend the money to have it shipped here to the USA. Plus it would take so long to get it.
Thanks for the info antares!

Here is an update on this amp... Got hold of one of my amp tech friends. He told me that the part number 8EB2C1B is the same as the 8GB2CIB (same specks). In face the 8E is a little stronger then the 8G. Said there should be problems is the swap out. He did recommend the Mod tank.
The 8G mostly shows that it is a Carvin tank. The guy I talked to at Carvin was wrong on the specks of their reverb tank. They told me the input is 10k. That is wrong. It is not 10k.
So That is what I'll be ordering.

I like Amplified Parts, too. I sat and talked to one of the owners for about an hour at a recent guitar show. Nice guy.

Hey EB, I found the quoted text below on the following web page: forum.ampage.org/forum.php?cmd=vt&tid=6597"The DC resistance and impedance are 2 different things. The G input tank measures around 800ohms (DC) for around 8K impedance. The E input tank measures around 60 ohms for 800 ohm impedance. They are quite different." I failed to notice that the part number that you originally quoted had the letter "G" which doesn't show up in the spec. sheet. Given the throwaway internet quotation above, I would proceed with due caution. I'm sure that the input and output impedances can be adjusted with suitable resistor matrices, but I guess no one wants to go there- too much to work out! Cheers, Steve.

The amp is gone now. I don't think I'll be getting another one anytime soon. Thanks for the input. EB
