The biggest belly bulge I've ever seen. 1976 Takemine 12 string prolly tuned to E for all 37 years on the planet. The strings don't even touch the saddle and there are only six on it right now. Attachments:

The bridge is pulling up, surprise. The top is so tweaked there's no way to say at this point if the neck will need to be reset. The x braces are pulled away from the top on the bridge half of the guitar. Attachments:

The back and sides are nice looking and overall the guitar is in nice condition. Hope I can save the one so it doesn't end up as wall art. My plan is to use a Bridge Doctor but the BD alone will not save this one. Attachments:

Dane, the acoustic I just fix had somewhat, what you have with this one. I was lucky that the braces had not come off. But when I took the bridge off I let it set of 3 or 4 days and the top flatten out. (It too had that up bow) I glued the bridge back on, strung it up and played it for week, and everything stayed put. Do you think, taking the bridge off and letting the body sit in a case with some water would let the top flatten back out? EB

I've been humidifying this one with bridge off for over a week. Nothing's moving on its own. I plan on making my own version of the Thomson belly reducer as seen at stew Mac. That and some heat and little tweeting might get me there. To be held in place with a bridge doctor. I have considered taking the top off and redoing the bracing but man what a can of worms.

Yes, that was the only other thing I too was looking at. Taking the top off. But you are right that would be a can of worms. Looks like one of them projects, that you have to ask yourself if it's worth rebuilding or not. Guess if want the experience of fixing it, then go for it. But to me I don't see how you will come out on top in making any profit. But if your like I am, I hate to see a great guitar go to waste. So more times than not I will fix them, and try to come up with a price that the customer can live with. Sorry for my thought process... LOL! Thinking while typing. HA!

I finally have made some progress on this guitar so I'll be loading some video of what's been going on. I might have some stills as well. The videos are not high quality but hopefully will get the point across. Later

A lot of work... interesting though. Hope you show the end result of what you are doing. I did a Conn 12 string not too long ago. It too had a huge top bulge on it. I used one them bridge doctors on it. Had to let the guitar sit in a case with some water for 2 weeks. Installed the bridge doctor, and then one installed I stared to move the top with the adjusting screw on the bridge doctor. It took me about 4 days of move it until the top was bake were it should be (Flat)put on the new strings and had to adjust it again 2 more times after the string were on. I was lucky in the fact It didn't need a neck reset. When it done, the guitar plays like a dream. I sold to a guy about 2 months ago, He said he had never played a 12 string that was so easy to play. the bridge doctor did make a big difference not just in the way it played bout hoe it sounded. I am sold on the bridge doctor. I have now installed 3. Two of witch were for costumers. Cool stuff. EB

Oh yeah, I'll show the finished job. Here's another video. Did some work today not on this vid, fitting the neck angle. I've thought about using my other camera on a tripod to record the actual work but then I'd have to edit out all the dead time and id rather build stuff than edit. So for now this is as good as it gets.

I had this neck joint come up on an old no name a couple of years ago. Very surprised!
Good video, thanks for posting it.

I'm beginning to think there's no such thing as a dove tail joint. It's just a big hoax like the Yeti. I see pictures on line and blurry videos but never in real life.

...and the search continues.
Soon, I'm going to get into an old Harmony neck reset I'm almost 90% sure is a proper dovetail. We'll see!
