OK here is a sneak peak at one of my future builds. A double cut away Les Paul. It will be a semi-hollow body with a maple cap. I have the maple coming, and should be here sometime this week. I am thinking for the back mahogany or Spanish cedar. That is my first choice for wood. My second would be poplar for the back. I don't want to use ash just because I have found it to hard to work with plus it like to crack. Well, any way this build wont get started till spring time. I hope to be able to buy some cool stuff for this build. I want this one to be one of the best I have ever built. So keep a look out on this build too see what I decide on wood and pickups and so on. OK not too many looking at this... Here is more pictures of this up and coming build. I made the neck blank sometime ago. It is maple I got from Home Depot. A lot less expensive than getting it off eBay. The maple cap or top I did get off eBay. I won it and with shipping was around 30 dollars from Canada. I get stuff from Canada faster than I can get it from the USA... go figure!

Yes he's the one.
I've gotten a lot of guitar tops from him.

I've only bought 2, but thew were both really nice. I have a hard time getting past the $20 S&H. It usually puts the top into the $50-$80 range, which is way too much for me.

Yeah, I keep looking for when he has a low bid on something then I wait till the last few seconds then bid on it. That's how I got this one. I got one form him for 25 dollars once. So I got the top for 5 dollars plus the 20 dollar shipping. But most of the tops I see on eBay sell for a lot more money. That's if it's sold here in the USA.

I am always intrested in all the builds here. But I think you guys are also tired of reading ''looks great'' the whole time. So I am just lurking silently around The grain of the wood looks really nice by the way.

Yea, Niels.... I'm a lot like that. If I don't have anything constructive to add/ask about, I don't see much of a point is saying anything.

Well, to me it doesn't look like there are too many building any thing at this point in time. I know that avenger and I and have a few in the works. But where are the kit builders?
I have 6 builds going on now. I have parts for most of them but I don't know how I'll get the parts for the ones I know I don't have parts for. Heck I don't even have the wood for the body for this build ( Less Paul double cut away) and I have no takers to trade for some of the walnut that I have... Hum....
Hey I now can keep my garage warm, my land lord gave me some insulation for my garage door. Now it stays nice and warm. So what does that mean? I can now get back on my builds and now worry about getting cold or freezing the wood to the point of it cracking. Well, any way some of us talk or write stuff. For me it's because I have nothing else to do at this moment in time.
Sure wish others would catch the bug and build guitars. I guess I'm just one of many or not so many that eat, live and dream guitars.
OK I'll quit chatting.
I hope after Christmas there will be a lot more going on!

I am always interested in all the builds here. But I think you guys are also tired of reading ''looks great'' the whole time. So I am just lurking silently around Based on the feedback I get there are lots of folks interested in the builds but do not write anything in the thread. One thing we've tried to encourage here is honest feedback, and the moderators and I will delete a "flaming post" in response to an honest question. Don't be afraid to chime in if you have a comment or question. I'm a lot like you though -- sometimes I just don't have anything to add! Thanks for being part of the community. John

Since I started working again (YAY!!!!!), I haven't had nearly as much time to work on anything. I've has to peel back to one or two active builds at a time, with little progress being made on either.
I've also been making a crapload of Christmas ornaments, so that's been sucking up a lot of my time as well. Now that they're almost all done, I should be able to get back to the good stuff.

I have a lot of time when I'm not on the phone or helping out a friend of mine.
I'm on workman's comp at the moment and not working. So I work on my builds as I can. Once I get to hurting I stop and go in the house and look to see whats going here.
Now that my garage is warm I hope to be able to work on my builds a little more.

I bought a nice quilted maple top from fraser valley. You can also order from their webpage as well as eBay. www.fine-woods.com/ I'm not planning on using it on this build but for the next one I am attempting a totally custom design I've drawn up using an african mahogany (Khaya) back which I have already purchased, quilted maple top and mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard. It will be a sort of PRS based shape with a bolt on neck and two humbuckers. Nothing really original but it should be fun to build and play. I'm hoping I'll be able to post a full build log for it. Will likely be after new years before I get to work on it. I'm currently trying to get my scratch built tele finished. I also have a tele kit laying around now that I am going to try to get started soon. Anyway, here's hoping we start to see lots of new projects on here after the new year. I love seeing the progress from EB and avenger, I'm just hoping some others will be posting too. It's great to see what others are doing and they always give me ideas. I have way too many ideas and too little time and money to carry them out. Oh well . . . that's always the way I guess. Everyone take care and have a great Christmas. Dave

I hope after I get the 3 Teles I'm building at the moment to be the last of the Tele stile guitars for me. But I like them so much. That is why I went with this up and coming build. I just wanted something different to do. I hope to really get it started somewhere around March or April, I'll have to see how things go.
At the moment I want to get the other build's done.

OK, I ordered the mahogany for the body it should be here soon! I did buy some alder (got it for a really good price) But the more I though on it the more I wanted this build to have the mahogany. I haven't made up my mind yet for the fret board. I might go with ebony, only because I have not used ebony yet on any of my builds, But I may change my mind later on. I still need to get the truss rod and order the bridge yet. I hope to start this build sometime in later spring. I still have a lot of other builds I need to get done before I start this one. EB
