I like what you did with the fretboard.
Was that fretboard stain easy to work with? I have a First Act cheapy guitar that I got as part of a trade and I am rebuilding (hopefully) for my daughter. It really could use that treatment.
No rush, she's only two.
I have some time.

The fretboard stain was very easy to work with. I just taped off the maple on the neck and brushed the stain onto the rosewood with a small art brush. After it dried, just had to wipe off the excess.
On another note, we've had some really good weather here in Michigan (after the rain quit). So I've been spraying some DEFT clear coat the past two days. Right now the neck and body are hanging out in the sun. I'll keep spraying through monday probably, and then let them cure for a few weeks. If its really nice, and I can keep the, hanging outside, then maybe just a week or two

Ok, well, for the past week or so, things have been drying. Sometimes out in the sun (very helpful), and sometimes not. Needless to say, I became impatient, and had all yesterday to do nothing. Because of that, I entered the pre-assembly stage. I started with the wetsand, and started on the neck and headstock. It turned out nice. I left the back very satiny looking, and only polished the headstock. Then we went to the body and got working.

That is going to be a great looking guitar.
What brand of clear did you shoot over the Krylon Ivory paint?

I used Deft gloss. I've been hearing and reading that the new Krylon formula is enamel, and the Deft lacquer doesn't react too well to it. That's partly why I used the old formula Ivory Krylon. I finished putting the guitar together last night, and I love it! I'll post some pics and videos later today

....................... I think it's done. Haha, I mean, of course its done! I am very, very pleased with how this guitar turned out. The Krylon Ivory looks just how I wanted it too, and the guitar shines like a champ. It was almost blinding sitting out in the sun! I did a quick setup, and it feels great. I strung it up with .11's, and just used the stock nut that came with the guitar. All I did to it was take it out, and then sand a little off the bottom to lower the nut slots a little bit. After that, it was just a matter of stringing it up and adjusting the saddles. It plays really well acoustically, and did I mention it feels great? Upon finishing and wetsanding the neck, I decided to not polish it, I repeat, not polish it. This gives it a nice satin look and a really quick feel, not sticky at all. I love it, it turned out just as I had hoped. Now I just need to plug it into something! Unfortunately, my amp is at a friends house, but he's going to bring it over today, and then the fun really begins

I plugged it in today, and I have to say, I love the sound of these pickups! I had some issues though with the wiring, and the bridge pickup keeps shorting out. The others sound great though, and I'll work on the bridge wiring on monday and try to get videos then.
Again, I'm very, very pleased! The body turned out great, and it's all about preparation. Taking the extra time to prep the body and properly prime the guitar and whatnot is key to getting a good finish.

ok, well I went out and got a new switch today. I was at Guitar Center picking up strings and they had a Fender 5-way, so I went for it. I installed it, and now all the pickups work! It made my day to be able to hear that bridge pickup.
I'm going to try and work on some videos tomorrow, now that everything is working properly. Stay tuned folks

Man, I had to register just to respond to this thread. Great looking, great sounding axe! And to think you did it yourself! Man, I'm impressed! I've been wanting to build my own "Franken Strat" for some time now. I wanted to get all original USA made Fender parts, just haven't been able to afford it. Now that I've seen some of the kit guitars you guys here have built, I'm thinking that I will do my own Saga strat. That is one killer look you got there. Thanks for posting it up for us to see.
