Sounds like they are set up in opposite directions as far as start and finish wires are concerned. Which means they are likely giving an in-between hum cancelling option. So 5 is neck, 4 is neck and middle- hum free and 3 is middle. If I am interpreting this correctly, not exactly. Close, but 3 is the humbucker by the bridge. Everything else is correct.

Sorry, my bad. 3 is the humbucker, 6 is the middle, and 7 is the neck.

Another quick question. Are volume and tone pots just the same thing wired a little different? That is what I think I am seeing.

All done. After I had it all apart, putting it back together just seemed to make sense. I just put everything back where it was for most part, and the places where solder joints broke were not that difficult to figure out. Sounds ok. Now I just have to worry about intonation and string height because I got a brand-new bridge. And since it was all apart again, I gave it another coat of paint, with clear coat this time. Now it has a working Tremolo that I will probably never use. One of the positions sounds weird, like a tin can. Really mid-range heavy. Humbucker + middle pickup position. So, I guess I just won't use that one much. Probably just needs height adjustment.

Congrats! It looks good with the clear. Peter Green liked that sound a lot.

Now, I am having a minor problem again. I made a new picture to reference my locations. I could have swore this was working correctly when I tested it without strings on, but I don't know, maybe I was wrong. Position 3 is middle pickup only and works fine. Position 5 is neck pickup only and works as well. Position 4 is the problem. It is supposed to activate both the middle and neck pickups simultaneously, but only the neck pickup works in this position. I am wondering if I did something stupid when I was a kid and crossed the wires when I was messing with it. This was roughly 30 years ago, so I don't remember. I am wondering if I switch the white and red wired around at position 5, if this would solve the problem. What do you guys think?

Rather than patiently waiting for a response, I went ahead and swapped those wires. The neck pickup stopped working completely, so I swapped them back to the way they were. Now, the neck pickup still does not work at all. Looks like I may have opened up a can of worms.

Oops. It didn't work because I soldered the hot wire to the humbucker terminal. So, I went back to plan A and soldered the white wire as hot for the neck pickup, but it's the same exact deal. Position 3 is middle pickup alone. Positions 4 and 5 are both the neck pickup by itself. I don't know where to go with this one, and I might just give up if nobody has any suggestions. The guitar works well enough as is. If I can't use the middle and neck pickups at the same time, the world won't end.

I found a picture of that same switch. So looking at the right side of the switch lever on top. Bridge is top then middle then neck. It's opposite going up the left side. If the pickups are wired that way and it's not working then the switch is bad or there is a wire grounded out. Also it looks like there may be solder from the lower right tab touching the middle tab and that could cause some problems.

I found this after a search: www.accordo.it/article/viewPub/56832The image is not great, but I realised that what looks like extra wires is actually where the wiring is rendered as thick tracks. It should at least help you to compare with what you already have?

It does not look like it really matters which side is used. The thing I don't understand is this. Both pickups work. They just don't work simultaneously. The other side is messed up too, but not as bad. Position 2, which is humbucker + middle pickup, does work, but it sounds awful. It sounds like somebody cranked the midrange and killed the bass and treble. Each pickup work good and sounds quite good too, as long as I only have one pickup on at a time. I figure I wired something wrong. I have very little comprehension of what is going on, so it's mostly guesswork for me. Maybe I will try and draw a diagram of how it is wired. This will take a while, and I'm not sure how well I could even do that, but I might try. So, positions one (humbucker), three (middle), and 5 (neck) all work well and sound really good. In position 2, the humbucker and middle pickup both work, but sound awful. In position 4, the middle pickup is totally off. So position 4 and 5 do exactly the same thing, which is activate the neck pickup. I'm pretty stuck, so I'll try to make a diagram.

I'm working on the diagram with freaking paint! I don't have anything else. It looks like a 3-year-old made it so far. You guys are going to get a good laugh out of this one, but it might be a while.

Still sounds like an out of phase problem on position 2. And maybe some solder touching another lug on position 4. Looks like it's touching in the photo. Can't be sure.
I could use a good laugh!

Alright, just making sure you haven't forgot about me yet. It hasn't been that long, but I haven't posted anything in a few days because it was my work week. Now my weekend is here, and I am currently disassembling the guitar. I will be posting my awesome half-ass wiring schematic soon. It's mostly done, but there's a few things I need to look at yet. It should be up in a few hours. I learned some really cool auto body shop techniques to make the clear coat really shine, so it will be a few days before I put it back together in a best-case scenario. A few years ago, I was trying to get a dent out of a chrome bumper on a classic car, so I have some really cool stuff to make it shine like glass.
