A sad day today. The HP is going to its resting place, where all out dated computers go. This is the last post the HP will ever make.
Once again today the HP started to act up. I really think that the hardware is tired. It just does not what to play well on the internet. It struggles to keep up. I plugged in the Dell like I had the HP. It works like lighting. I knew the time was coming. The HP is around 15 years old. I see where Linux just announced that they will no longer be supporting computers that are 10 to 15 years old. I looked into updating the hardware on the HP, but it would be cheaper to buy something new.
So today I'll pull the hard drive and memory and put my old friend to rest. It has served me well. Time to let it go. Good by, my old HP laptop friend.

Well, it was sad to take the HP offline and put it to sleep for ever more.
Don't know now what I'll do with it. But I may end up using the screen for something.
So far, the Dell is working out great! I have been looking online at laptops and I have 3 that I am wanting to get.
1; is a Mac 15 or 16" Pro. Most expensive out of my line-up. But has the most going for my needs. 2; Lenovo has the biggest bang for the buck. They have some of the best reviews. 3; last but not lest is a Dell. To me, Dell is a good working laptop. They don't seem to have the issues like HP and others have. According to the info I have read. They, too, have good reviews A little more expensive than the Lenovo, but like I said, the Dell has a good all around rep.
I will end up with one of these 3. I will have to wait until summer to maybe even get one. Dog gone medical bills keep getting in the way. LOL!
But for now the Dell is working.

Well, well,well... If it's not one thing, it's another. For what ever reason, Debian Linux on the Dell crashed! I lost everything on it. Good thing that most of the files were on an external drive. I tried to recover the drive, but there was nothing showing on the drive. No OP system at all. Hum...
I was going to reinstall Debian, but I decided to do the right thing and went back to POP OS, I almost put Mint in it. But after a trial run with it, I didn't like it on the Dell. Pop is working out great so far. But I wonder now if there is something going wrong with the SSD drive? I might get a new drive for it before I get too involved with the new set-up. I, some way, I hope that is all that it is and not something going on with the computer.
I have to wait until next month to get another drive. Only going to put a 512 gig in it.

OK, I was able to order me a new hard drive for the Dell. I also got an adapter for the DVD drive, so I can turn it into an extra internal hard drive.
That all sent me on a quest to find an easy to use Hard drive cloner. After trying out 4 of them, I found just what I was looking for.
It's called; rescuezilla. By far the easiest to use. You need to make an ISO USB image of the program and then let it run on the computer you want to clone. It takes a couple of mins to load. But once it there it is so easy to use. I tested out the cloned drive (on an old drive) and it works flawlessly. No need to rest passwords, didn't lose anything. It will also run the OP system from the external device. Pretty cool!
This littler program sure takes the confusion out of cloning a hard drive. I remember years ago I had an easy-to-use cloner. But over the years I must have gotten rid of it. But I may not have worked with the way things are today with computer hardware the way it is now.
This program will also make backups of anything you want on your computer. It has like 4 functions or options for you to choose from.
So, this will be so cool to do. I can make a clone of the hard drive that is in my computer and not have to worry about installing a fresh install and all that it would in tale. I get to keep everything the same. No redoing my email, Firefox account and so on and so forth. This sis a cool way to do hard drives! If anyone ever needs to clone a drive, this is the way to go.
I won't be able to upgrade the Dell drive until Feb.7. That is when the drive will be here. I hope this will help the Dell out. As far a computer, it works out pretty well.
I am using it as more of a computer than a laptop. I still have it hooked up to my TV. POP OS is working out great as well.
Once I get the parts in, I think I'll do a video on what and how I upgrade the Dell. Should be fun!

Well it's always something as Rosanna Rosannadanna used to say. "What's all this I've been hearing about violins on TV? Who could be against violins?" "Oh...violence on TV..." I always liked her bits on SNL! John

Well, it really never ends. The Dell has come to its end! I will never again put it online! I thought it was a hard drive problem. The CPU is what the issue is. It is cheaper to buy another computer than to buy another used CPU. I am also done buying used stuff as far as computers go. And their parts! Not worth it. You don't know what you are getting until you get it. Only to find out the words “Like New” are just that words. These companies that sell this stuff need to stop trying to sell people 10 to 15-year-old junk!
SSD Drive do not last that long and to sell someone a drive that at least 12 years old is wrong! I got one that would not mount or post at all. Glad I was able to send it back and got my money back.
So, after a long talk with the wife, and moving some things around, I ordered me another Mac Mini 2. So I will now be all Mac. I decided not go with another laptop. Since I am now using my TV and can sit in my chair, I really don't see the need for a laptop at this time.
I figure if the two Minis will hold up for 5 years, then that would be long enough for me. In 5 years I'll be 75, And I really don't see myself doing a lot by then.
I don't care what some think about Mac. But I like using it. I can make my videos with ease and surf the web in lighting speed!
I'll also be able to use my keyboard and mouse for both computers! I can also transfer files and videos without a hitch. That will be so nice!
