Yeah, when I started this I was wanting a white Les Paul, and I was going to paint her white. But once I put the woods together I had to change my mind. I am really liking the look of the guitar. I too think she is coming along quite nicely. Today I drilled out for the push pull pots and the other pots. I got the hole for the switch drilled. Still need to drill for the input jack. I also need to drill for the front pickup wiring and for the bridge. Oh I also started to make the back control covers. I'll have some pictures up this weekend.

OK did some stuff to this today. I decided to go ahead and fix the binding, were I hit it with the angle grinder... What I did was, I used my 1/4" chisel to cut along the spot I need to replace. What I did was go between the fret line to fret line. I'll need to re-saw for the frets once it's all dried. I made the replacement piece fit tight. I wont really know how good I did until I can remove the clamp. I'll finish this some time tomorrow. I put mu logo on. It marks the 12th fret. here I am making the back control cover. I will be making two out of this. I used my bad saw to slice the in half. here is the cover sanded and cleaned up. I like to leave it a little on the thick side. One I get the body routed out for the cover, then I'll start to sand it down with my thickness sander to get it really close. then I'll finish it by had sanding. an other vire of it. was trying to show how the grain will line up. Well that's it for today. I still need to make the cover for the switch... Some of the things I did not show is the drilling for the wires for the neck pickup. I wound up having to drill a hole toward the switch. Remember what I said about cutting a channel in the side of the neck. Will I was thinking I would be OK because of the chambers I made, well I was wrong. I started to drill and was no where close to the chamber. So I had to drill a hole in to were the switch will go. Because I was able to drill a channel for wires where the switch is. At least I hope it will work. LOL! I am so excited to get the new custom made pickups from John. I have been wanting to get a set from him for a long time now. This time everything worked out for me to get them. So she is getting down to all the what knots now. I hope by the weekend to be done with all the drilling and routing. I may do a little pre drilling for the tuners. Then once I get them I can finish drilling for them. I would like by Monday to do all the finish sanding and start the Tung oil finish. I think I am going to stay with a satin finish on this one. EB

Yeah, I know you changed your mind on color. I was just teasing. I think it would still look good lighter, if you could lighten just the maple... but I do love natural and dark woods, and not much looks better than an oil-finished guitar. That cover is looking good, too. Really going to fit in well. Better than the custom cover I'm going to have to make for my infinitely-long project, but I hardly expect mine to look as good.

I had a guy over here yesterday, that told me I should die the maple blue. I told him "I don't think so" I had thought of using a white stain, But I really like the way she is looking all natural.
Everything hardware wise is going to be black. I have most of the things in black. I was going to use nickle plated stuff. But I just don't have the money at this time to buy everything I need to do so. So I already have the black bridge in my parts bin and the tuners I had to buy will be black and chrome. The custom pickup will be black as well. So I thought just to go all black. Still think it will look good. Just not what I was really wanting.

I think guitars have a way of being what they want to be. That is their personalities and even looks if allowed to kind of emerge in the building process. Course if the plan is to paint a guitar from the start then you should start with less interesting looking wood. Poplar maybe, though even then I've been very tempted to do a natural in Poplar.
Black hardware is cool too. Keep at it bro.

Thanks! Well I used the wood I had on hand. That way I didn't have to go out and buy any. But yes, if had the money to spend on wood this built would have went a whole other way. The other LP I did that had the walnut on top with a cherry back came out pretty good. I like how the cherry looked next to the walnut. I really didn't how good it would look on this build next to the maple. It's one of them builds, like you said, it just knew what it wanted to be.
Well, between cleaning up the shop from all the saw dust from this build and the phone ringing off the hook. I did get the binding fixed. No pictures yet, but there will be later on in the proses of things to come. I am also today putting some tung oil on the fret board. I am trying to seal off the decal so that it will say on there for a long time.
Once the fret board has enough tung oil on it, I'll be putting in the frets. Well, I may wait until I get the control covers all done first.
But on any build, I always expect somethings not to go right. Seems I have something I have to fix on my builds. No matter how much I try to make things perfect, there is something, like the binding that go south on me. Oh well, I have found for me it's part of the hobby.

Good the bad and the ugly!!!! Well, It happened! Now I am really upset!!!! Wend to put the stud mounts in for the bridge. And the Maple cracked!!! I never had a guitar do this. So I am trying to fix it. I guess it may have been a bad spot in the Maple. I don't know... It has not been good for a couple of days now.... So If can't be fixed, I'll have to start all over again.... EB
