Yeah the price is a little steep. I like the two tone ones. I am like a lot of the ones that gave there 2 cents I would like to play one. I do think the necks will stand up better than the old ones did. (not brake)

Wow, $2000 bones for a plywood SG....
The clear bobbin tops on the pickups are really cool though!

This has come up on a few other forums. I do agree, Its not worth buying a plywood guitar for that much.

yeah, well the way I see it (in one way) maybe there just experimenting with other ways of making a guitar. I have been reading where the call for hard wood is getting less and less. I have also read where the logging co. are hurting and some have had to stop logging because there are not as many saw mills ordering hard wood and the wood that they do have the price is going up and up like everything else. Have you seen how much wood Gibson uses? it is scary how much wood they use. What is even harder to believe is that there are the many people that buy those guitars. So maybe they are trying to cut cost. But if I read there SG add right it's 1,999 dollars. And that to me is a little steep! But if they can sell them for that then more power to them. It funny how everything is going up and people out of work is going right along with it. So who is buying?

Looks pretty cool. What is it about plywood guitars that you guys don't like? How does it affect the tone? I would think it would be more durable. I sure like the look and feel of solid hardwoods, though.

I don't like it. Just my opinion. I would prefer to have one of the faded SGs they sell at GuitarCenter for about $799. They are solid wood and play great, IMHO.
If anyone gets to play one of these rigs, tell us about it.

I just saw a show on the Green channel that skateboard deck production has supplanted the flooring industry as the number one consumer of maple wood. the show was seeking alternate materials and came up with a laminate consisting of layers of bamboo and hemp cloth and a glue made from hemp (don't skate too close to a fire kids!)
apparently the resulting deck retained the desirable properties of maple with some enhancements. this new SG reminded me of that experiment. only with better aesthetics - that SG is UGLY, IMHO.
maybe we're going to see some more experiments with laminated materials as tonewoods and rain forest materials become scarce

Well, I was hopping to get to the music store to day if I do I'll see if they may have one in there I can demo. Whats was kind of funny about this SG I seen someone playing one on TV just the other night and I went to Gibson web site looking for something else and seen that SG again. I had thought of taking two veneers and doing something in that lines. I just haven't done any experiments to see if it can be pulled off.

Well, if you thought that SG was "out of the box", check out this new offering from Gibson: www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/graveyard-disciple-819/I seriously couldn't imagine anyone buying one of these. "Hey Mom -- can I use some of my money to buy a new guitar?" "What does it look like, honey? Oh my...." But that is my opinion, John

Well went to the music store and they haven't even seen one yet. The guy/kid that waited on me said it sounded cool to him and he couldn't wait to check it out. But WOW I wish I has some money they are having a clearance sale on everything in the store. Some real good buys. From amps to guitars. I think there trying to drum up some business. But on the SG I did like the look of the two tone SG's. But looks aren't everything!

But that is my opinion, John Yes Amen, it looks like a high school wood shop project gone wrong. So Zakk designed it, a coffin with a neck. That was tough. d
