Pretty cool to see what some of the bands got paid for Woodstock. I read that the pay max'd out at 15 grand, so they actually wrote two contracts for Jimi (and thus were able to pay him 30k), then gave him an extra 2 thousand for "expenses"... (for the two contracts, Jimi actually played twice - one acoustic set during the day, then electric at night). Poor Carlos only got $1500! And Santana was like a 6 or 7 piece band!

Gee back in 1969/70 I was making 750 to 1000 a week playing and I thought I was doing good. But to get paid 32,000 for two songs! I just don't see it. Even by todays standers I don't see how they pay someone so much money. But if they can get it more power to them. Out of site and in the groove man! Everything is Groovy!

Still a lot of money. I never got to go to Woodstock back in the day.
I was playing in concerts and night clubs at the time and was on the road at lot. sometimes playing 5 gigs a day. playing for grand openings and junk like that! But it was a lot of fun. We just didn't know it was fun back then. It was a lot of work and we had to do our own setup and brake downs. The bands that played Wood stock didn't have to worry about that all they had to do is walk out on stage and play. I only got to do that twice once at an outdoor concert and once on TV. I just had to walk out and plug in my guitar and play then walk off after it was all done. Boy I wish I could do that now!!!

32 k is a lot of money for just playing a few songs. I wish I became so much money with playing songs in my own room But does someone know what artists get paid nowadays? bands like metallica or less famous bands like flogging molly or dropkick murphy's

I read somewhere that over a two year span (2006 - 2007), that Metallica made about 500 million, but I have my doubts about that... Days of multi-million dollar income for rock bands are pretty much over. Being a rock star nowadays is a blue-collar job.
Green Day may be one band that still makes millions, and some perennial "pop" stars (like Michael Jackson used to be)....
Ahhh... I sure do miss the good ol' days!

And regarding the money...
Both Led Zepplin and the Moody Blues were approched to play at Woodstock... both turned down the invitation due to having better paying gigs already booked!

Oh, I HIGHLY doubt that Green day makes more than metallica. Metallica plays about 175-200 Gigs a year, pretty much all sold out all over the world. Most in other countries have like 75K People at each one. Im sure they bring in 10X more than Green Day.

i disagree with that. these days i wpouldnt pay to see metallica. i seen them in dublin in 2003 and i left after the first 2 songs. hetfields voice has gone to shite. ive been to 5 greenday shows and they were packed. greenday is still selling out big venues.

If you say so man. I am a metallica fanatic, and keep up with all their shows and stuff. They constantly play sold out shows all over the world, especially here in the USA. And ad 90$ a person, Im sure they are still bringing in the bucks. GREEN DAY?? Wow. I'll hold back what thing I have to say about them. I find them probably the worst famous band ever.

thats your opinion. in my opinion metal as a whole is crap, all that over drive and screaming. why pay to see a show you cant even hear or understand over all the crap? . open your musical mind dude, from what ive seen you are pretty darn closed minded.
and thats al i have to say on that note.

Thats fine. I am very open minded. I dont rule anything out or judge something before I check it out. I just find that GDs lyrics are crap, pointless, and insulting most of the time. Sorry for going off topic, no more of this stuff.

I also heard that the Doors backed out kind of last minute because Jim didn't like big outdoor venues. And Zep said if we play there with all the others bands then we'll be just another band. d

Poor Carlos only got $1500! IMHO [and I think by general consensus] among the rock bands, Santana easily put on the best performance at the festival.
