Rover, you would laugh at my 428 powered 64' Pontiac. I think its done at around 4500rpm. Need to get a tach one of these days! Our dailie is a 91' stock Honda Civic SI that revs the rpms and is fun in the corners. I try to be well rounded I guess, hehe.
My favorite car we own is a 86' Honda Civic Wagovan w/ working air. It's so slow it's a challenge to drive it in traffic. Plus it holds two half stacks and a couple of guitars and my wife! Pretty amazing car. Alright, I didn't have to add that, but I wanted to talk about my Wagovan!

hey hoz,how ya been man? my 67 chevy II was kinda like that with the 454 and powerglide,it was done at about 5500 lol. but my 68 dart swinger 340 with the small block would scream all the way to 6500 lol
out of all my cars my fav that is driveable(m3 has no low end power) daily is my 1971 bmw 2002. 111k miles with working air.
ive got a nasty diesel truck too. a 97 dodge thats putting donw a little over 1000hp to the rear wheels. its scary fast and pulls to 6500rpms.

chris, the chipset im running is the euro race spec chipset,no speed limiter or rev limiter unlike the tame us chipsets. it pulls strong to 8700 rpms. i hit the recall switch on my tach and when it threw rods it was spinning 9000 rpms. the ecu is to blame it got hot and a jumper wire shorted out. im gonna put a couple of fans on the new one. I was going to ask about a rev limiter, but kind of figured you weren't running one. Limited you would have had to kill the electronics for it to stop. You like to live on the edge don't you! Only 300 rpm margin of safety. My '64 425 produces 465 ft/lb torque at 2800 rpm and 360 hp at 4500. Not much use in pushing it beyond that, all it makes is noise. Car weighs 3800 lbs dry and will run 14's. It can actually can turn though it'll never perform like your Bimmer! LOL Chris

My Z28 was set up to go through through the corners too I do know how it feels to run on a road track ( use to live next door to Riverside racy way and also worked there) and I also know how it feels to run on dirt been there done all that. I have drove all kinds of cars from slow to vary fast. But like I said I love to feel of the front end coming up and the car taking off and having the skill in keeping it straight to get the fastest time. I know it also takes a lot of skill to drive on a track as well. And all my cars had no Nos on them they too were all motor. Have you ever ran a dirt track car at 90 I have it is fun but there is something, for me that the raw horse power that a drag car makes. Oh I also use too work for BMW back in the70's and they had a race team. All I can say is they were a different bread of guys than the guys I hung around at the drag strip. The cars (BMW) were cool, but again they just don't have that HOT ROD sound or feel. [imghttp://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo28/eagleblues/Image36.jpg][/img] these are just a two of the cars I have built. Except for the 1980 Z28. These were built from the ground up. I built the frame for the 40 Ford. The cars were also built and painted by me. Again these are only a 2 out of 200 cars. The 69 Z also had tricked out suspension.

chris,my m3 tips the scales at 1800lbs with 13 gallons of 110 octane VP blue in the tank. its pretty much stripped to the bare minimum. caged,no rear seat,no passenger seat. interior panels were replaced with aluminium. its a race car thats it.
m3's and e30's in general have became modern day classics. a clean 89-91 m3 can go for upwards of $15k. mine came from canada. i bought it as a wrecker for $550 and had to go to high level alberta to pick it up.
ive had my share of hotrods and muscle cars but i came to apericate a car that i can actualy afford to drive. i traded my 67 nova the 1971 2002 and $10k cash. totaled the swinger and took the truck off the road. i enjoy my 42.6 miles per gallon and still be able to smash d**n near anything stoplight to stoplight. lol

Yeah well I don't have any Hot Rods nor do I race anymore I sold off all my tools and my cars all I was saying is there will never be cars like that ever again. As long as you are having fun with what you have then more power to you. But as far as affordable sounds like a lot of money too me! Imports are to me expensive they may or may not be better in gas mileage but they make up for in cost of parts. As far as light to light I was never beat by an import on the street or the strip and I did it without computers and Nos. Just seat of your pants racing.

my daily driver is a 1991 318i 4door with 255k miles on it. i just toasted the factory clutch. i bought it as a second owner car from a gentleman in washington dc that drove from arlington to capitol hill daily. ive put 110k hard hard miles on it. change the oil every 10k miles and and i replaced all the bushing, motor, trans and body mounts with ureathane. a litle more vibrations but the car has a solid feel. best $1500 ive spent by far. next week end it will be making a trip to canada for the 3rd time this year to go visit my wifes family in alberta.
eddie, only thing i do to the electronics is restore them back to the factory european settings. us bimmers have strangle hold on them via the detuned ecu chipset. one thing to think about is you can adjust your timing via the dist. i cant. if i want more advance or retard i have to adjust via the cam sprockets and pupm the fuel up.
but i know what you mean seat of the pants lol my swinger would twist the fram and pull the left front wheel about 15in off the ground lol
