Paul Reed Smith says that Carlos Santana paid for his first PRS guitar. But many builders in order to gain creditability give there guitars to famous players. If you were in that boat who would you give the guitar to? Keeping in mind the guitar is electric. dane

I have thought of this vary question for some time now. for me I would love to have Clapton, Or BB King, Santana, I would even like Brad Paisley to play one of my Teles. Then again they wouldn't even have to be that famous. I have met over the years some people that I would not hesitate in giving them one of guitars. There is a guy in Prescott AZ goes by the name of Freddy. He was once recognized by guitar player mag. As one of the grate unknown guitar players. He is real good! He is a lay back kind of guy. One of those kind of guys you see and you wouldn't think he could play. But when you hear him play you have to ask yourself why do I even try.

There are a couple of musicians local to me whom I'd like to see playing my guitars. They are both just starting out and don't have a big name, but they are good honest musicians.

If I were going to give a guitar to someone I really liked it would probably be Rick Neilsen of "Cheap Trick". I think he appreciates cool and one-off guitars. If I were going to give one to someone who could sell some guitars, I would pick one of the Jonas Brothers or Mylie Cyrus!
All "endorsement deals" are not created equal. I knew a guy who had a PRS endorsement. He was a pretty big MTV star back in the mid-90s...not quite a household name, but still pretty cool. He had full-page ads in the guitar magazines, and PRS put him on a very cool concert-stage poster. His compensation? He was able to buy two PRS guitars of his choice annually for cost!
Yes -- no free chicken here. I always had this fantasy of getting all of this free stuff. Maybe it has to do with taxes!
Good luck, John

I'd give one to Nick Jonas! he's so dreamy........ Seriously, I'd give one to Dave Rogers. He's not a famous musician but he does own a large guitar shop.....

Hey...Tommy Tutone phoned from 1987 and he wants his wardrobe back.
Nice SG...who is playing through the Marshall? A prop maybe?
Sorry -- He should probably be playing Epiphones for maximum "junior rocker" appeal.

Well I did give a guitar away 3 weeks ago. Some of you might remember the fire in New York City's Chinatown district, that killed 2 and left 27 badly injured and over 100 homeless. One of my former colleagues was living there as she was studying photo journalism. Long story short, she lost everything. I sent my recently rescued classical guitar to her via a mutual friend. Here's her reaction: "Chris! I love it! It is amazing.. I've told many people the story of how you restored it to life already... and played it in the subway (like I've always wanted to) carrying it on the way home. Thank you. Your thoughtfulness and generosity means so much to me " Here's the guitar, And the lovely young lady who now owns it. Somehow I feel more satisfaction giving it away to Annie, than I would have gotten from selling it... Chris

That is so cool!
There a lot of satisfaction in giving a guitar to someone that appreciates the guitar.
Got to keep the music going! Paying it forward! ( just a quote I heard or read some where)

Good on ya, Chris!
I don't know who I'd give one to. Probably not Pete Townsend... *SMASH*

Chris -- Well done. A very nice thing to do. Thanks for being a good citizen and being a great contributor!
On a side note, thanks for not giving that guitar to the Jonas Brothers.
Good luck, John

Did parents in the 1960s bag on the Beatles like we bag on the Jonas Brothers? Just wondering, and not that the Jonas Brothers don't deserve it.... in my opinion....

Right on Chris, Cool thing to do. I have to admit my motives for giving away a guitar are strictly selfish, or business. Is that the same thing? I'm trying to find a way to turn my passion into something people want to pay me for. All the really good players I know personally can't afford a custom built guitar and they all want me to sponsor them but I can't afford to give away that many guitars. I guess for once being out of it has payed off. I've never heard the Jonas Brothers. dane
