I recently got together with a full lineup of musicians, and my small practice amp distorts when the volume is turned up loud enough so that it can be heard over the drums. It is a cheapo fender 15 watt. Does anyone have suggestions for a 50+ watt amp thats less than $300? I really just want a good clean channel, since I mainly rely on a Zoom multi-effects pedal for distortion and such. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Check out this link...hope it works. www.musiciansfriend.com/compare?base_pid=481305&base_pid=481599&base_pid=481332&base_pid=482272This does not constitute an endorsement; rather, it is just a look at what is available. I remember back in the day when I worked at a music store there was this dude who came in and wanted a new amp. The criteria was he wanted to play at the Community Center (a local venue) and not have to turn it up over "5". Reminded me of the Spinal Tap conversation...."It's one louder, innit?" I recently played with a guy who had a really nice set of Roland V-Drums. We practiced through headphones, and I used my POD. After all of these years, it was a utopian experience not to have to wrestle with the drummer or his giga-decibel drums! Good luck, John

I play through a 100-watt silver face bassman with a hiwatt cab for live shows. For practice the 30-watt blue jr does the trick, but wouldn't deliver a clean tone to save its life .
For your price range and wattage ,look for a Fender stage 100 or FM. Both amps have a warm tube clean and crunchy channel. Either can be found used for under $300.

This is just at guitar center, just in the 200-300 dollar range. there is more in 0-200 range, and if you go a bit above, you can get some good selection. www.guitarcenter.com/Guitar-Amplifiers-Guitar-Amplifiers-and-Effects,200-300.gc edit: for some reason the whole thing wont link, the last "200-300.gc" isn't blue on my browser, so just copy and paste that line into your address bar

thanks for the help. I'm leaning towards something in the Peavey Transtube or Fender FM series.

I really like the TransTubes. They have steadily gotten even more realistic since they've been introduced.
