The GuitarAttack Crew journeyed to Atlanta last night, September 3, 2007, to see a full-on, 80's rock show -- RATT and POISON! We'll post a full review, but here are a couple of "hot wash" points:
1. "Vains of Jenna", the warmup act, was really great. Looking like refugees from the Sunset Strip of 1985, they rocked out to a largely uninterested crowd. Well done.
2. Warren DeMartini is still one of our favorite guitarists. He is one of the greats, and RATT sounded fantastic. Warren was playing his killer Charvels, and had 12 old Marshall cabinets as a backdrop. We miss the 80's!
3. Poision is much better now they have embraced sobriety, and it appears that the reality show realm has given their careers a huge boost. They really did sound great, and their playing was much better than anyone around here ever remembered.
More to follow.... John

They just stopped near here a week or so ago, and got decent reviews.

They played here on Aug 31st... I know a few people who went. They all said Vains of Jenna rocked the house, and "Ratt's guitarist" was awesome (there are people who are a tad too young to know much about their first go around)... I kinda wish I'd have gone... Who knew???

I just happened to hear about the concert on the local FM station. I usually listen to XM, but I was in the middle of a particularly harsh rush hour, and switched over...and there it was -- "POISON, RATT, MONDAY..." and the usual tag lines. It didn't sell out, but there were probably about 5-6000 people in the amphitheater. Not a bad crowd being it was over Labor Day.
Here is the quote I heard: "Yeah...that old dude in RATT was awesome!" Well, I'm proud to be an old dude, too!

It's amazing to see how our guitar heroes have aged. I celebrated the 18th anniversay of my 18th birthday this year, I guess that makes me 18 2. It's funny how getting older makes you think. I'm older now than these "old dudes" were when they were in their prime...you can sort of tell who's been taking care of himself and who hasn't - George Lynch looks like he could twist your head off with his bare hands, while Eddie Van Halen looked like a homeless guy before going into rehab this spring. I'm glad to see Eddie and the guys from Poison looking (and hopefully staying) healthy and sober now. I've decided that, as long as Keith Richards keeps kicking, so can I. Talk about yer old dudes....

And some are as good as ever. I took my wife to see B.B. King in Toronto in May. She wasn't a blues fan before, but she really appreciates it now.
