I had an MXR DynaComp and sold it to a mate back in the early 1980s together with a MicroAmp, a Noise Gate and the aforementioned Boss CE-3 chorus in an attempt to cease relying upon effects as crutches. I found that I missed the Dynacomp so I bought another when it popped up in a local glorified pawn shop. A compressor should *ideally* not impact upon your *tone*, they are about even-ing out excessive dynamics really unless you are absolutely going for that Nile Rodgers Sound. I later built a compressor from a magazine kit project (called The Paranormal- the splendid assembly instructions culled directly from Guitar and Bass magazine used to be online but sadly no more absent logging onto Scribd.) with which I could blend dry with wet. I loved that and the DynaComp ceased to be used. Then I bought the Origin Effects "SlideRIG" and that did for all the others. As with all these things, all knobs at 11 is not the way to extract the best from them. Although the DynaComp does modify the sound a bit, if the DynaComp is doing bad things for sound, a bit of knob twiddling is called for. $0.02 etc.

Thanks John. Yep that's how I've seen them used as well. Not a Lot of use the way I play.
Steve, It works well as a boost but I have a boost. So it's just on there cause I hadn't messed with for a while.
